Well the surgeon called this afternoon and we set a date. I'm scheduled for AVR (I'm still learning the abbreviations and think that is the right one) on Wed Oct 4. Surgery will be at the AZ Heart Institute in Phoenix. We are going with Carpentier-Edwards bovine valve. Now I'm starting to get nervous. Haven't been allowed to run for two weeks but have been walking (How boring :( ) 4 or 5 times a week for 3.5 to 4.5 miles. Gotta keep my mind occupied and my weight down.

Hi, Kodi. Congrats on setting the date... I'm soon to do the same, sometime in mid-November. I'm not a bit nervous right now, but I suspect having that date on the calendar might lead to some butterflies for me, also.

FWIW, I had lunch today with a friend who had a bovine valve implanted in 2003. She's doing fabulously. She said that the surgery wasn't all that big a deal... hers was complicated by the need for a pacemaker, made necessary by some complication of the surger, about which I didn't pick up all the details.

I'll be very interested to hear what these next few weeks are like for you!

Well Congrats to you! Try to stay busy (that's what I'm doing!) so that the time flies by for you and then you'll be on your way to recovery before you know it! I wish you the best of luck and an uneventful surgery!! :)
