Hi Everyone
Just wanted to let you know that I went to see my card. today and had a good report. I came off some of the meds. It seems that I was taken to much and had to come off one of the beta blockers and have one reduced. My heart beat has been really slow 45 beats per min. so he took me off them. On the plus side my INR is doing quite well it was 2.7 today. Since I've been home it has been between 2.3 to 3.2 so I am quite pleased with that. I am only take between 3-4 mg. of warfrin a day.
The only concern was the mech. valve isn't tickin very loud. My card. had to listen twice. He said it was very quiet but was working. I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I know that when I left the hospital they said that it should always be loud and I should have no trouble hearing it. I can't hear it at all. My husband listen through my chest to make sure that he can hear it.
Is there anyone who can not hear their mech. valve or should I be concerned.
I am also being given some fluid pills for the fluid on my lungs. I still have quite a lot on both lungs. I am to take the fluid pills for a least 2 months to make sure it is all gone.
Thank you all for your advice and concern. You have been a great support and help to me. It really helped seeing my card. today and having a lot of questions answered and the answers that I have gotten from you.
Thank you, God Bless and Take Care
Faye

Hi Faye,
Great news about the good report. I don't really know about how loud the valve should be ticking. I can hear my ticking, but it is a soft ticking. I have heard others say they can't hear theirs tick. I am sure if the doctor isn't concerned, everything must be ok. If it really concerns you and you feel you need an answer, give your doc a call. That is what they are there for. I continue to wish you a very uneventful recovery. Keep us up to date on how things go.

Take Care!
Gail

Hi Faye

I'm one who cannot hear my valve unless I've done something to make my heart race and then only if I listen really close. It's pretty quiet. I don't think I'd worry about it. Once you get the fluid problem resolved, you'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Congratulations. :D

Faye - sounds good to me - even if you can't hear it. Long as it's goin and goin and goin and.............like the bunny.

Congratulations on a good report. God bless

Ticking

Good news from the cardio. You know, my husband just can't hear my valve even with his ear to my chest. I think different people hear different sounds better. Perhaps your valve is ticking in a range that you can't hear very well.

The noise from fluorescent lights drives me to distraction, but I really don't hear too well. There are sounds I'm real sensitive to, and others (oh, like my husband's voice - tee hee) I'm not.

If doc is OK with valve, don't worry. You couldn't ever hear your heart before, be glad you don't now!

Congrats again.

Have you gone to the VR "May's featured site by Carbomedics" yet? It has available several valves and you can hear the sounds they make. With your question you might find it very interesting. Hope you are feeling well today. Betty

Hi Betty,

Being new to this forum, I am still trying to navigate through all the boards. Where would I find VR "May's featured site by Carbomedics"? I would really be interested in hearing how the valves sound! Thanks for your help....

Kathie,
At the top of the page is a bright yellow ValveReplacement.com. Clicking on that will take you from the forum to the main page, where you will find a different website featured each month, thanks to Hank.
