Rivet

I just saved a bunch of money by switching my insurance to ....

Just kidding! :D

Actually, it turns out my aortic valve is only leaking moderately (+2). The echo and TEE were both showing severe (+4). But, the cath and MRA showed that it wasn't that bad. There is an eccentric leak (to one side), so it looked worse to the echo than it actually was.
So, in the end, it turns out I don't need surgery after all (at least not for a quite a while ... fingers crossed). Just need to continue taking Vasotec and see cardiologist again in a year.

Congratulations, Rivet, on your good news. You have to be considerably relieved. :) At least now you have some time to do research, and if you do eventually need the surgery, you can go into the process as an informed consumer.

By the way, I asked you on a previous thread the significance of your screen name. (You must have not seen it.) I went to Rivet High School, a little Catholic school in Southern Indiana. Is there, by chance, any connection?

Good news Rivet,
Just keep getting those regular check-ups.
I didn't and it almost killed me.

Yes, it's a bit of a relief.

No, I lived my whole life in NY. I just liked the sound of the word "rivet".

Oh well, I thought maybe we had one of those "It's a small world" things. Anyway, the high school was named after a 19th century Catholic priest named Jean Francois Rivet (pronounced Ri Vay). Funny though, all of our rival schools associated us with frogs. :D :D

Take care and hope you stick around our site even though you may be several years away from surgery.

Wow! That's great news. But make sure to keep every appointment in the coming years.

By the way, Joe and I live in Glenville, NY. I see your an Albany person. Wish our weather would warm up-- :)

Blah, postponing the inevitable. Might as well do it now so that you can really feel like you've done it. :D
