hi out there!
we got some really good news today. we spoke to dr.stelzer (surgeon) and after reviewing joey's tee video, he confirmed that there are 2 leaks. the av is intact as are the stitches. it is leaking mildly, but nothing to worry about.
there is, however, a second leak, which is why the echo looked like there was a severe leak (the 2 leaks together).
this second leak is coming from a coronary artery which was provoked during the surgery.
when dr. stelzer cut away at some heart muscle and tissue while doing the ross, he said it may have caused this. fortunately, he didn't seem alarmed (neither did the cardio, but the cardio had never seen this before). dr. stelzer said that it it is really nothing to worry about and joey can resume his push ups and weights. as with any other vr patient, symptoms would indicate that we need to look into it further. worst case scenario, it can be sealed through catherization ("coil occlusion"). boy, life can be so rich and sweet!!!
we are leaving on vacation tomorrow (we take an anniversary trip, our gift to each other, every year, but had to postpone because of joey's surgery this yr).
i wish the best to all of you having surgery this next week. i'm sure everyone else here will hold you r hands and be with you while you await your days.... i look forward to coming back and reading up on johnny's, greggo's, jude's and mcknotts' uneventful recoveries! wishing you all the best. you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless, sylvia
