I've heard that after you have open heart surgery there will be some rides I won't be able to get on. Any one know of this. I am going to Universal Studio, Hollywood < Saturday.??

Hi! There are some kinds of rides that a "heart patient" will be discouraged from riding. Universal will have signs at the entrance to those rides indicating any concerns. Of course, much of that is for their protection, legally speaking. But it is mostly rides like serious roller coasters or sudden impact type rides (sudden flume drops or floors falling out, etc.). You might want to ask your doctor as he/she will have the best advice knowing your personal case. Disney and Universal have many, many fun things and rides that you can enjoy though--unlike say Busch Gardens where ALL the rides are roller costers! Be careful, but have a great time! Susan

Hi Syl...just wanted to say...VERY good question...with vacations and summer approaching.

I personaly am a 'chicken' and always have been..lol..so no loss of fun for me...Yikes...I freaked at age 16-17 on these rides!!!! What a 'wuss'..huh...lol!!

Hi Syl! How are you? Well, I asked my cardio about this, and he said I shouldn't have a problem. I'm not a prospect for a heart attack, and that's what they are more worried about I think. I love to go on roller coasters, and I also asked about downhill skiing. They said that would be fine too. Have a great time !

I think that the general concern is for those who are still recovering from surgery. Some ridesa are kinda rough and throw a person into bar that do cover the chest area. I am concerned also about that, since I am still recovering. It is a good question with all the rides that could cause problems. Take care all and just use common sense with rides.

..............those (us) with valve implants should not subject ourselves to any sudden shifts as it applys undue pressure to the valve. Remember our implanted valves have been reconnected to tissue and although unlikely, a tear could happen. I recall as I left the hospital that I was told via an info packet that heavy lifting (+++25lbs) is a no-no as well.

Aside from that, and to the question of amusement rides, I know that even now if I get up to quickly I sometimes incur some dizziness (aside from the fact I get those symptoms regularly, anyway) so I would think any fast moving ride (and they all are, anyway) should be avoided.

Thats why I play golf.
