I've got a date for AVR with Craig Smith at Columbia Presbyterian at 6AM on Tuesday 10/10. I laughed with tomkanis who's got the 13th scheduled. They gave me the choice of 10 through the 13, and I chose the 10th so I'd be pretty well along in my recovery by the 13th. I've never thought of myself as superstitious, but when decision-time came.... I laughed at myself and stuck with the 10th!
I wanted to thank everyone who contributes to these forums. I've gotten a tremendous amount of information here. Your stories of success and of your difficulties have all given me encouragement.
I've chosen a bioprosthetic valve. Of course all the regular doubts and worries are here - the valve choice, the surgery - it goes on and on.
But I've been dealing with a bad valve my whole life - aortic stenosis for the first 12 years, a leak for the past 22. My Cardio told me to stop excercising 6 months ago when I started getting chest pain and uneven beats. So I'm really looking forward to feeling healthy, getting to excercise again, and hopefully even getting more in shape with my new valve and my healthy heart!
The folks on the Active Lifestyles forum have really inspired me - I'm hoping to do a NYS Canal Trail bike trip - Buffalo to Albany (about 350 miles) this summer.
If anyone out there is also going to be at Columbia Pres next week, I'd love to hear from them.
Thanks again!
