It's been awhile since I have posted, but I wanted to let all those members pre-surgery and post-surgery. I'm coming up on one year aortic valve replacement( second surgery) and met my goal to play in an Alumni Basketball game this last weekend. I was out there playing with 20 year olds and holding my own.
It just goes to show how wonderful the medical field is today. One year ago I was hardly able to get around and feeling depressed and today I feel great. So, for all those who are waiting and have all those worries that we all feel.....it does get better. Thank God.
But at 50 I think it's time to give up basketball and work on my golf game.

What? You think 50 is some sort of stopping point? Listen here Mister, you best give them 20 Something boys something to think about until your at least 70, then you can back down a bit if you'd like. ;) :D

Mike,

Congratulations on your new-found energy and vitality! Thank you for sharing this with us newbies who are only a few months postop and others who are going into surgery real soon.

You sound great! Like Ross says, participate as long as you feel like it with your sports - that is the great thing about getting older - who gives a flying fig what those younger kids think of us!! :D

That said, golf is wonderful exercise all around - calms the mind and gets you to focus on the moment, while getting great cardiovascular exercise.

You go!!

Way to go!

Way to go!

Hi Mike-

Happy Anniversary! It's so good to read your post and it's very inspirational to those who are facing surgery. Sounds miraculous, just a year out of surgery to be playing a game of basketball. It's an intense game.

Hi Mike, it is great to hear how good you feel today and that you can give those 20 year olds a run for their money. Hopefully I will be able to do the same after replacement. My goal for fifty is to feel like I am 20 again. I am 40 right now and feel like I am 80. Maybe it is this Washington rain! Take care and enjoy your new found youth!

It is great to feel so good. I am a year postop and can't believe how much better I feel than 2 years ago. Can keep up with the grandkids and really do feel good when I get up in the morning. It is so nice not be short of breath and tired all the time. Life is good and you have to live it to the fullest which I plan to do.
