Hi, all!

Just wanted to share with you that yesterday was the Go Red for Women event. I had a wonderful time! :D

I met the six other models who participated with me. Each of their stories is so unique and inspiring, and we all bonded like sisters of the heart! (I know that sounds really cheesy, but it's true!) One woman had a stroke in utero and has a weak left side, whereas my right side is weak. We compared notes over typing with one hand and how we tie our shoes. Really, it was so great to reaffirm that despite the struggles I've faced since birth, there are others out there like me who have gone through similar experiences. That is also part of the reason why I enjoy VR. So many times we go through things and feel like the only person who's ever gone through it. Yesterday I really did feel proud of who I am. God made me the way I am for a reason, and I am not ashamed like I was when I was growing up.

The hubster, sister-in-law, and even my cardio's wife attended the event. It was such a nice surprise to run into Doc's wife since neither one of us knew the other was going to be there--and it was great to have her support anyway since my cardio couldn't attend. One of my cardio's MAs called to wish me luck the evening before, and that was really nice. I have such a great cardio and staff.

The luncheon was great--we had the best fish I've ever tasted, but I had to enjoy it quickly since we needed to get changed for the show halfway through. I missed our guest of honor's presentation, but the Hubster said Cloris Leachman (!) was great. She has such a great personality and sense of humor! Wish I'd gotten a photo with her after the show!

We gals all looked beautiful in our dresses, and we had a blast walking the runway as we showcased the red dresses. The Hubster got some pictures of me--they came out too dark, but the one picture of me from the video presentation pre-show turned out OK, save for my mouth wide open mid-sentence. I'll post that pic as soon as I get my camera downloaded into the computer. My sister-in-law also got some better shots, so hopefully I'll get those soon so I can post them as well. There's also a pre-show group shot that some of the girls had taken. If I can get a hold of those, I'll post that. Basically, I'll post pictures soon! ;)

Anyway, I just wanted to thank all of you for your support. It really was an honor to be a local "heart celebrity" for a day and help out the American Heart Association.

Love,
Debi (debster913)

Forgot to mention...

Forgot to mention...

I wore black pumps with zippers on the sides...they're these cute Jessica Simpson shoes (got them for 20 bucks on sale) I bought just especially for the event!

...I wore zipper shoes in honor of my VR friends who have zippers! :D

Debi:

Wish I had been there! Can't wait to see photos!!!!

I wore red today at work -- many of us did. One person -- a CABG veteran -- forgot to, so I gave him a red folder to cut a heart from and pin it to his shirt.

Lovely post Debi - looking forward to the photos.

You go girl!
