My healt insurance (Cigna) does not cover Coumadin ,so I have to pay full price: $37 X 30 tablets!
My P:confused: harmacist told me that the same amount of the generic drug
would cost only $7.
Is there any problem if I switch to generic?
What is your experience on this?
Thank you

I have found absolutely no difference with generics made by Barr or Taro. Can't address any others because I have not tried them.

Some people swear that they can't control their INR with Generic or it's very hard to control. I have not found this to be the case at all. Same drug, different price. I've used both at the sametime, one of one, switched them out and have never had a problem.

"Generic Coumadin"

"Generic Coumadin"

I have been taking "Jantoven" for about 8 months now. It has been exactly the same as "coumadin".

Jantoven is a "Branded Generic" which it is a generic made by a well know company with higher quality controls or something like that.

Go check it out at www.jantoven.com .

It counts as a generic when paying the co-pays, but I feel it is the same quality as the name brand..

I've got three different mgs's products in my medicine cabinet and have used them interchangebly without any problems whatsoever. I think you will find most people on this site have had the same experience, but not all.

Had My Doubts

Had My Doubts

I've had some wierd INRs that led me to think the generic might be to blame, but have since been convinced otherwise. I suspect most are fine. My mail order pharmacy changes brands fairly frequently, but everyone assures me they are all good. I felt the cost was ridiculous for Coumadin, so I switched. That was years ago and I'm still here! I went from Coumadin to Taro with no problem or change in the INR. I stopped alcohol and had to increase my warfarin dosage.

Absolutely no difference for Jerry. Actually, I like his using the warfarin better because I'm the one who fixes his weekly dosages and the warfarin is easier to cut in half!

According to all the replies to my post, it seems generic drugs can efficiently replace Coumadin
Can you give me the names of the most reliable and cheap
generic so I can ask my doctor about them, please?
Thanks a lot!

I think the generic you get depends on what your pharmacy has on hand. I've always gotten Barr from Walgreens.

btw - I've used Coumadin and warfarin generic interchangeably and have never had an inr bump. Occasionally I'll get coumadin samples from my doc & just mix & match. No problem.

I think Barr and Taro are the ones we usually see.

MY experience

MY experience

Hi there! I was changed from warfarin to coumadin about 3 weeks ago and for some odd reason my INR's are finally stable. They went from 1.6 to 6.9 in one week while on warfarin and since starting the coumadin I have been regulated for 3 weeks straight which is the longest so far since having surgery. I dont know if it's the difference in the two drugs or if it's the new hair coloring I'm using. Nevertheless......I'm not asking, beacuse it's working.
Breathing in and out much smoother these days:D
