Gadgetman's surgery this Friday

Hi G-Man..I wanted to start an early thread for you. So, you are still going to UAB for your surgery. Knowing that you live in Ga..you may leave early. So, I just wanted to wish you good luck..but, I know you will be fine. Please try to have someone to post for you..We worry. Especially, Ross. If you have any pre or post surgery questions. Just ask away....Bonnie

Thanks for the thread. I'm sitting in a motel just off I-65 in Birmingham. We go see Dr. McGiffin tomorrow at 1100. I hope to know more (direct from his mouth) by afternoon. I check into UAB Thursday for Prep and my surgery is scheduled for Friday. I got an E-Mail from Sue (SJJ) telling of her experience at UAB. She made a mistake (HA) of including her phone number so we called her last night. She was very helpful and supportive, as are all on this site. We found out that its a small world after all.

My wife has access through my "gadgetman" and plans on posting as we know more. Four days to go.

Thanks, in advance, to your wife for keeping us posted on your progress. I am sure Friday seems a long way off but it will go by quickly. Soon you will wake up in recovery and marvel at how great it is on this side of the mountain.

Best wishes to you Gadgetman. The days leading up to Friday may seem long, but they will be keeping you busy. Dick had his surgery "out of town" too and once they check you into the system, things roll along very quickly. He had pre-surgery on a Tues., catherization and check-in on Wed. and surgery on Thursday. We will be thinking of you and looking forward to all good reports from your wife.

Hello All, I?m Gadgetman?s wife, Peggy. Ihope I'm doing this right.

We have had an interesting day. Our meeting with Dr. McGiffin ended up with Dan being admitted. Dr. McGiffin said it was very serious. He needs 3 or 4 bypasses, reposition the AICD lead, his Tricuspid valve and mitro are both leaking. If they can?t repair the mitro we are going with the mechanical valve. He said the pressure in his lungs was way up on the last test could delay the surgery. He said they would need to check the pressure and if it was still up they would give him meds to bring it down. It could take one or two days or longer to get it to where he thought surgery was safe. I asked him if he wanted to put him in earlier and try and control it. After I told him we were here until something was done he said let?s do it. They put in the Swan Ganz thingee and they said it looked good. Still don?t know if the surgery is on for Friday. I guess we will find out tomorrow or Thursday.

Talked to Sue (SJJ) the other night and it really helped Dan. He is still a bit emotional which is understandable. She was a big help in settling his nerves.
