This is a brief excerpt from a featured WebMD article entitled,

7 Dangerous Drug Mistakes:
"The blood thinner Coumadin, taken by people with blood clots or with heart valve conditions, shouldn't be mixed with ginseng, says Jenkins. Nor should it be used with aspirin, says Grissinger. "It's an additive effect," he says of the Coumadin-aspirin combination. "It increases your chance of internal bleeding or, if you get a cut on your finger, the blood won't clot as quickly." Indeed, there are many drugs and supplements that are off-limits when you are taking Coumadin."

(edit - I have tried to put the link up to the entire article but the link won't connect to the page. If interested in reading the entire article, search: WebMD 7 Dangerous Drug Mistakes.)

Ginseng does anything at all?

Ginseng does anything at all?

First of all Coumadin is referred to as "a blood thinner--I'm already tensing up

Ginseng increases chances if interal bleeding--
Ginseng has never been tested in a laboratory. The Chinese know it works so there is no reason to test it for anything--now my neck is stiff

A cut finger won't clot as quicky--by patients already on warfarin--my blood pressure is rising

This person probably means well; however he is just contributing to the myths already out there about ACT.

Note to self--breathe deeply and exhale.

Cheers

Never heard of anyone being seriously jeopardized by a cut finger so that is a dumb example to use. Makes me question the credentials of the writer.

Lance - be careful - you might end up on the "coumadin lovers" list.;) :D ;)

I just checked the National Library of Medicine and cannot find even one article about anyone suffering serious enough harm from a warfarin ginseng interaction to be hospitalized.

I doubt that a cut finger would get you any further than the ER. Then by the time you got examined, it would probably already be well on the road to healing.

I say we form a Lynch mob and go get this perveyor of mythology.

Why am I thinking of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, and the angry mob scene. Anyone with me here????;)

Karlynn and Ross -- a mob of two.

P.S. I passed my recertification test last night - so I am still a Board Certified Anticoagulation Care Provider.

150 questions in 150 minutes. I hadn't taken a test since I got certified 5 years ago.

I'm still digging around in my closet for my pitch fork. I'll be ready to roll once I find it.:p

Congrats Al! Sure would like to see some of the INR management providers we read about here try to take the test. It could be very telling.

My only question is how did these test results compare to your test at home!? :D

If I didn't bleed after my cleaning yesterday at dentist.. I'm not worried about cutting my finger.:D It was almost a year..since last cleaning..due to..having to obtain Insurance/dental included....since Delta asked all us older retirees to buy our own insurance...to help them out. We were glad to.. but took months to get our new insurance..I knew I was in good shape..brushing/flossing....but she had to do a little more. like running that sharp thingy under my gums. .But No bleeding..:) ....After she was done. I asked that the mirror be brought down so I could take a look..Sure enough. NO bleeding..:) .....Stayed on my warfarin..........Great dentist..Up to date on coumadin...Bonnie

Congratulations on passing your recertification! Wow -- 150 questions in 150 minutes. That's Superman speed, isn't it?
Actually I think that's about an INR of 151.0 at an ISI of 1

With all due respect, with your knowledge of ACT, 150 questions in however many minutes did not begin to challenge your knowledge of ACT.

Maybe your ability as a speed reader.

I respectfully tip my hat in your direction.

Cheers
