Friend In Need

We have all come here at some point, in need of help. Whether it was emotional or spiritual help, or for advice. I have a dear friend in desperate need of help, and I hope you all don't mind me posting here about him.

Sam is a type 1 diabetic, with coronary heart disease. No, not a valve, but close, Ok? Janie, you probably know of him, you are from Texas, and I'll bet others of you know him by reputation as well. His name is Sam Neely, and he had top 40 hits with "I fought the law" (who could forget THAT one?), "Loving her just crossed my mind", "Rosalie" and gobs of others. He is a singer/songwriter with a bad pancrease and a bum heart.

He is losing his vision due to retinopathy. They went in to do eye surgery, but couldn't put him under because of his bad heart. SO, he needs the heart surgery N O W !! His income at this point is through the sale of his CD's on his website at Taliesyn.com He is classified as folk/rock, but some of his stuff is modern country. He has been searching for financial aid, but has a home which seems to be throwing him out of the running.

We all know how it feels to be in need. We all know how it feels to have to ask for help..... at this point, he needs financial help. Later, when he needs help recuperating, I will be there for him. I am determined to help him to get well. If any of you like music, please check out his site, and consider buying a CD. I'm reaching out to every resource I know, and I don't know of any better place to reach so many people, with so much understanding of the feelings that come with illness.

Thanks Mindy for letting us know about Sam. I couldn't have been a greater fan of Sam. I've listened to his songs over the years, requested them on the radio and am walking the treadmill to his music today. It gives me the energy I need.
Please let Sam know that I will remember him in my daily prayers, and I hope a miracle will happen.

He mentioned that Hensylee (i think) had already emailed him, and he was quite flattered. I have been somewhat unpleasantly surprised by the lack of response of any kind from the other members here. You, Hensylee and fyrfytr have posted and I appreciate it immensely. It has been viewed over 150 times, yet no one has even sent him well wishes.

I have been a member of VR for many years, and have always tried to be of support to others. I have not been as active in the past year for varying reasons and maybe that is the reason for the disinterest. I am just surprised, and disheartened. (love using that "heart" word!!)

You take care of yourself, and thanks you guys that did write, for your prayers and kind thoughts.

I read Sam's website front to back and what a talent. Of course I remember his songs and also danced away to them. I didn't know he was born in Cuero, TX and still lives in the South Texas area.

He'll be in my prayers in more ways than one. Thanks Mindy for passing along the info as we always want friends of our heart buddies included on the prayer list and we want to do anything we can to help.

Thanks Gisele, and Rain and Ross for reading the post, and sending Sam some good vibes. I guess I could have put this post under "significant other", as that is what we have become. It is surely a new experience to be the worrier, instead of the worryeeeee.....

We laugh alot about who is able to do what, unfortunately we have some of the same limitations. He comments every single time he gets a note from you guys.... he says "Do you know, Ann??" or whomever it is. It always makes him smile and that is a GOOD thing!!

How sweet of you, he mentioned that he got a note. He is so thankful for everything, I wish I were more like him. We are hoping for the best on Sunday... the big benefit day.

I have always been so fortunate to have insurance and the means to get the care I needed. I see that I could so easily have been in the same exact spot he is in now. I am blessed, beyond belief. I know everyone here is grateful for every day... I certainly am.

Hi Mindy, I just sent Sam a message. Sorry that took so long to reply to, I have just been busy worrying about my nephew, who is in the hospital with a serious heart problem. he's 18, and can't seem to catch a break with the health issues. He has had a liver transplant, and now they don't know if they will have to do a heart transplant in the future or what. I have finally just had the chance to read up on Sam, and sent him an e-mail!
