One Cardiac MRI...

Findings...
Summary

enlargement of the ascending aorta- 4.7cm. Todays distensibility measurements do not predict impending dilation of the aorta.

all the values were within normal ranges except for these 3
1. End diastolic volume 90 (50-84 norm)
2. Aortic root Diameter 4.4 (2.0-3.5)
3. Ascending Aortic Diameter 4.5 (2.0-3.5)

Also I have a BSA of 1.7 whats that mean?

So basically he added Lipitor to my meds and said he would repeat scan in 12 months . He isnt expecting any great changes in that time. Also my "bloods" all came back good too.

My BP is down to 105/70 which is a nice change.

so there we go,,thats about all I remember now...so here I stay in the waiting room.

Personally I think he should be doing echos every 6 months. Your email said 4.1 but what your saying here is 4.5. Remember, mine was about 4.7 when it blew. :(

ah well....

ah well....

So you stay in the Waiting Room with the rest of us. We love your company. :D

I'm with Ross. I'd opt for a 6 month echo. Just for peace of mind. My cardio keeps putting me on the 12 month and somehow I always manage to whine or find problems at about 6 or 8 months and just tell the office to set me up for an echo a week before she sees me. It's my nickel!! I'm not sure how things work for you in Australia, but frankly, if you are uncomfortable with the 12 month wait, I'd just tell your cardio. Hey. I don't want to wait 12 months. Please let's do an echo every 6.

Keep us posted.

:) Marguerite

I think Aussigal is saying they will rerun the MRI every year. I don't see a mention of when she'll have a repeat echo.

At present he wants 12 monthly echos and every 2 yrs a MRI...

And as Marguritte so kindly pointed out ;) ...I too will be able to come up with a feasable explanation in 6 months as to why I would like a repeat one then ;) .

Strange thing is the "other" cardioligist wanted echo's 6 monthly

Is distensibility a good or a bad thing to have?...I am confused again ?

I was also 1 year EARLY for my review with the 1st Cardio. :p when I saw him recently and presented him with this Aneurysm etc...

I wonder if my best option would be to send the results to the BAVD or Marfan Foundation guys who offer to check them for you, I have read about Aortic specialists who offer these services

It can't hurt to get as many guys (and gals) in the boat with you. I agree that nothing longer than a 6 month window would be the comfortable option right now. From your post I don't think you will allow many folks to WALK ALL OVER YOU.:D :D

Hang in there.

May God Bless,

Danny

The heck of it is, these things can lay there and not do any growing or they can suddenly swell and burst. I would not be comfortable without being reviewed every 6 months especially after seeing your report. Yours is exactly where mine was when it blew-4.7.

6 Months

6 Months

I say find a way to get the echo every six months! My valve failure seemed to have developed over the course of 12 to 18 months, and after discovery I waited about four and a half to five months for the operation. By that time I don't know what the figures/measurements were, but the surgeon said he could see the blood right through the wall of my aorta. He thought he'd caught it just in time. Don't settle for a doctor that doesn't understand your concern. You are dealing with the facts and figures, and have a right to monitor this dang thing as closely, and often as you want! (Maybe not every week, but you know what I mean) I say keep up the good work! You seem to be dealing with it very realistically! All the best, Brain

I really am stuck I believe...on the outer-edge of their borderline surgery numbers...

I reckon I shall engage the services of the BAVD foundation as Arlys communicates with the Cedars-Sinai Cardio-Thoracic unit and they are able to review my scans etc,,,ok..:D

Definately go with the 6 months... I went for my 6 month echo , got a call the next day from my cardiologist, and was admitted for surgery. Sure glad I didn't wait more than 6 months, I may not be writing this!!!!! I had symptoms but tended to overlook them.. Please be insistent with this.. Rose

YEP....
I did manage to turn up for my last review 1 whole year earlier because I felt things were NOT RIGHT due to these lil episodes I had been having...So I am gonna race off to see him next time I have an "episode" while all the symptoms are still fresh on my mind...
these lil episodes I have are different from the fainting spells I used to have as a youngster...I now get dizzy if I stay standing still too long in one place especially if I change from a moderately-fast activity to a slow one or vice-versa ...kinda hard to explain in detail but I do know that they are NOT NORMAL :( ....I wonder has anyone had more than one aneurysm? at the same time?
