My cardiologist is scheduling me for ultrasounds every 6 months. Is that necessary or could it be done once a year? I think my cardio is often too quick to order unnecessary tests. My AVR surgery was on 11/18/05 (ATS valve). My 1st post-op ultrasound was 5/5/06. Since I have an appt. with my cardio next week (11/7/06) & I know he's ordered another ultrasound, I'd like some information on this subject. What is the standard procedure on the frequency of ultrasounds, or is there a standard?

I had echoes every 6 months for the first couple of years post OHS. Then went to 1/year for the next few years and I now have them every 2 years.

Thanks, Geebee for the info. At least I'll have an idea of what I can suggest to my cardio. Or maybe I should begin by asking him what his plan is regarding the ultrasounds.

My cardio is carefully watching my mitral valve and I've been having echos every 3-4 months for about a year.
