Hi,

My father, 68, went through CABG (bypass) surgery 3 weeks ago. It is funny, I had my valve replacement 16 months ago and here I am walking my father along a similar path. I took him to the same hospital and same surgeon. When I came to visit him for the first time I even found him in the same room I was! By the way, his initial recovery went unbelievably well, now he is slowing down but I think it is due to lack of motivation.

I want to get him on a forum like ours (well, almost like ours...). Does anyone know of a similar forum for CABG patients? I don't mean one of these Q&A informative things, I am looking for a forum where people talk to each other and care about each other.

Any ideas?

Why not bring him here? Many of us have had cabg(I had a quad), I dont think anyone would mind. And we discuss multiple heart issues..not just valves. I am sure everyone would agree with me. Introduce him to us, Love the pup

there IS a bypass club; it has members; nobody is ever there. I joined it more than 5 yrs ago and never had any conversation to speak of - or not speak of. I found VR back then, too and didn't know what VR was - just knew I had some bypasses and wanted information so I joined here, tho I am not official; just a hanger-on, I guess. The members didn't seem to mind as long as I didn't have much info to offer on valves. Eventually my secret was out and they decided I could hang in here. Billy and I were officially named something else - and were the only ones not valvers.

\bet you can't guess what we were called! (but only by Billy and me)

Ok, I give. :D :D
Will you tell us, or do we need to email Billy?

Daniel,

Have your father check on here. I had three by-passes along with a valve repair (two for the price of one--I doubt it) . He will probably enjoy (or NOT!!! :D ) the banner that goes on here from members and family that have gone thru OHS or are in the waiting room. He probably can add to most conversations. Just because I'm not ticking doesn't keep me from adding my two cents worth (watch it Mary) :D :D

Ann,

I ditto what Mary said. What were you called???????? :D

May God Bless,

Danny

There is a Bypass Surgery Recovery Support Group on Yahoo Groups at [email protected]
If that address doesn't get you in, you may want to do an internet search for Yahoo Groups and follow the links.

This is an e-mail forwarding type of group as opposed to a website. The founder is a former Coronary Care Unit Nurse.

As one who has had BOTH CABG and AVR , I can tell you that the Post Surgery Recovery is VERY SIMILAR so your father should find the VR.com Post Surgery Forum quite informative and helpful, along with the Significant Others Forum.

The VR.com Post Surgery Mantra
WALK, WALK, WALK,
BREATHE, BREATHE, BREATHE,
NAP, NAP, NAP
applies equally to CABG and VR patients.

Best wishes to both of you.

'AL Capshaw'

Thanks you all!
I agree recovery is very similar (so why did he do so much better than me???).
I guess it is time for a father-son talk...

I got side tracked, went off to Orlando, hurricane came and I forgot to tell you what Billy said he and I are in VR. When he joined we were the only two who had not had an actual valve replacement ourselves and this site was created for valvers only so Billy said he and I were the 'bas***ds of VR'. because of our illegal status. Nobody kicked us out, they said we could stay, so we did.
