The scar treatment that I'm using is called Cica-Care Gel Sheets made by Smith and Nephew. They are a silicone gel sheet that sticks on to the scar . They are supposed to hydrate the scar area improving the appearance of the scar .They are expensive to buy ....£20 for the small sheet and £30 for the larger one but my GP believes in them and gave me a script for them. The family vote at the moment is that they have certainly flattened my scar already and the colour is less red looking, so far I am pleased with the results. It recommends you wear them for 2 to 4 months ..so I'm hoping for further improvement.
My GP also recommended I take high dose Vitamin C and High dose Evening Primose Oil to help with tissue healing. I figure none of this can do any harm.

This sounds like it could help most of us, Scottie. But I haven't heard of them here - Has anyone else? Maybe we should alert and question our Drs? I am glad to know you are getting some relief in this area as it was upsetting for you. Good luck and keep us posted, since many are very concerned about the scar and we would like to follow your results. Then we can have some answers for them - or suggestions.

hi Ann

hi Ann

Thanks for your post ..I'm sure you have them in the Us ..probably under a different name ...We are sure here that they have made a difference and they certainly have made a difference to my attitude ....I feel much more positive now I'm doing something ....
you take care
Scottie :)

Hi Scottie

Thanks for that,

My scar is still very red and raised and itchy
when I saw the surgeon at my last check up he said it was Kelloid and said he could restitch it if it bothered me, the apperance does not bother me but the itching does, I have been using cocoa butter on it.
I will ask my GP if she thinks it would benefit me

I am glad too hear that your scar is improving

keep smiling

Hi there

I've been using scar reduction plasters which seem to be similar to what you have Scottie. The are made by Elastoplast and can be bought in Boots for £20. There are 21 patches in the box which can be cut. They recommend you use them for 8 to 10 weeks before you see any visible results. I have been using them for about 8 weeks now and my scar certainly is flatter and less red. However I do have a bit in the middle which looks like a bruise. I reckon it is a bit of wire which is rubbing against my skin. Being slim I can feel my wires as I don't have any fat to cover them up :) When I go for my checkup in April I will ask about this and see if they can do something with it. Anyway as someone once said "wear your scar with pride". I was swimming last night and wore a bikini. Yes people were staring at my scar but let them. Take care.

I'll have to try wearing a bikini. I get all sorts of strange looks now. Could be because I look like I lost a sword fight with someone. I'm wondering if I can get stranger ones with a bikini. :D

Peachy!

Peachy!

I had wires sticking out from my last surgery which annoyed me no end ..however to get them out I had to get a referral to surgical ...the Cardios were not interested ....this new surgery came up before my referral ..and guess what ..now I still have wires annoying me ...just in slightly different places ...but don't think I can face another hospital visit ...even if only for a day. So glad to hear you are doing so well apart from the wires ...
I am someone who likes to keep my private life private so I don't show my scar unless I can help ...each to their own
Take care
