Hi all,

Seem to recall (somewhere) that you should not have your flu vaccine if you are already Ill???

Scheduled for Wednesday and I believe my sinus is infected. Just came on all of a sudden yesterday.

Have been real lucky the past year. Have been pushing the OTC Zicam and it really helps. Kicked many many colds and avoided the use of an antibiotic.

Going to give this a few more days until appointment time. If I can't kick it....antibiotic time.:( I don't feel all that bad considering. No fever.

Thanks

They won't give it to you if your ill when it comes time to have it. It would make it next to impossible to quickly determine what you have/had should anything go wrong. I've gotten mine while having a cold. I didn't have any problems, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Hi Gina, could you tell me what Zicam is?
( sounds like something I might want to look into ) Thanks.

Thanks Ross.

And Nan! How are you? Here is the website for Zicam. It's a zinc based nasal gel. I swear by it. Does not effect your INR. And really works on viral infections. How I can determine viral or bacterial. If I do not respond in 2 days or less...it turns out to be bacterial. Which I feel is where I am at with my sinus at the moment. Will see.

Gina, thank you so much!!! I am going to look for it in my local health food store. Looks like it is good stuff, especially now with the cold season coming on. Several folks in my office already have colds!

I hope that your sinus infection gets better soon! That can be so miserable.

I am doing OK, thanks. Just had a stress test and am waiting for the results, but it couldn't have been too bad as nothing showed up while I was on the treadmill :)

Hopefully it will be the same with the cardiolite pictures.

Coumadin caused a bit of a problem during the test in that when they took out the IV prior to going through the scan, we didn't put enough pressure on it and consequently I bled all over the scanner bed!! Not to mention my clothes!! I felt badly for the tech who was aghast!

Again, feel better soon.

My word. What did they do to you??? I am so sorry. You bled from the IV? Have never had the stress test myself. Thought it was non-invasive!

Figured I picked this bug up in the peditricians office taking my daugher for her flu vaccine. They have an isolation room for patients and or family members with chronic illiness. In the back door. Problem is...this time. We checked out in the main office. BIG mistake. I told my hubby he should take her from now during cold season. Antibiotics really mess things up for us.

You can purchase Zicam at almost any drugstore. Target, etc too.

Great to hear from you! Please keep us posted on your progress.

Take care

It's not that cheap. 8-10 bucks depending upon where you purchase it. Less expensive than an antibiotic and doctors visit!

Should not replace your doc. If you are in the yellow or green...time to call.

thanks for that info, gina and ross!
i get sinus infections all the time. the last time i had one, they gave me really strong antibiotics and that screwed up my stomach for 3 whole months_ terribly endless diahrea!! calaled c. difficile.
in any case, no one wants to put me on any kind of antibiotic these days, so i use a nasal spray called nasacort. i'm sure it's strong (prescription), so i'm really thrilled to try this zicam.
hope your infection clears up soon, gina. these infections can be so uncomfortable and tiring.
i look forward to seeing you good and healthy this weekend!
be well all, sylvia

Thanks Gina and Ross for the info on where one can purchase Zicam!

Gina, I hope today finds you feeling better.

FYI, there are at least two kinds of treadmill tests (could be more), one is just the treadmill and certainly non-invasive, and the other, which I had, is a cardiolite or thallium test, a nuclear imaging test that is supposed to be particularly good for women as apparently the regular stress test does not always give the correct result for women. (Looking for blockages in arteries) That is why you then have to have a scan, and that is why the IV. It was after they took the IV out that I was bleeding, and thanks for your kind words, but fortunately it was not painful or anything, just messy!

Take care.
