I've been reading keeping up with the "action" around here.... Everyone is in my thoughts in prayers...

Not an update on me, per se, but...thought I'd let ya'll know
that...we have ignition!

The 2003 debut of my older 4 Monte Carlos happened Saturday, April 26 (my sis's bday). And, oh, what a feeling (not Toyota) that was to drive them again! My cousin, Ben, came with me to get them out. With the help of Phil (who owns the garage where the older 4 are stored), we got them all started! The only one that gave us "trouble" (if you could call it that) was the '72...it simply needed a new battery...and it came to life! And, oh, how sweet those drives Saturday afternoon were! Beautiful weather...sunshine...some nice looks from others out driving their "summer cars"...and even some looks from the ladies ;).

Before going to my sis's bday bash Saturday night, my cousin and I drove my '79 and '72 MCs to the cruise night in S Elgin.... It was
cool to see quite a few people and automobiles out for the evening!

Then, earlier today (Sunday), my cousin and I took the '72 to Mt
Morris IL to see my grandfather.... Then, when I was driving the '81 later in the afternoon, I received my 2nd ticket for speeding (last one was in November 2000...en route to central IL to bring the '81 back home).... Yes, I did my "due diligence" by asking to see the radar...he showed it to me...but, he didn't (couldn't?) show me the time of the reading.... Yes, I have some doubts as to what he clocked me at, considering my speedometer was not where he said it was...and an "old geezer" (read: very old, crouched in his seat guy) in a newer Ford Crown Victoria quite literally seemed to speed past me going the other direction not more than 10 seconds before I saw the cop. I recall thinking to myself that the guy should consider himself lucky that no cops were around.... Ah, well...crap happens...LOL. I probably won't fight it...I think I've decided to simply take the class and court supervision for 4 months...we'll see ;).

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I have a cousin who loves these old cars. He drives one all the time as his everyday car and is in clubs - a 64 but I forget the kind. My neighbor, next property, died in 1998 at 98 years of age. She had, and it's still parked in her garage, a 1964 original owner car and everything on it is original. People tried to buy it from her but would offer her only $300 and she said she wasn't 'giving' it away to anybody and it could just sit there. People are still trying to buy it but apparently absent heir (lives in Texas) won't sell, but just lets it sit there. It is rotting. It had sat there for years when Miss Mae was alive because she could no longer drive. She kept the motor in excellent shape and I drove it once - it's like a tank (heavy) so it's definitely drivable, with some fixin up, of course. Shame to let these old cars go to waste, isn't it?

Enjoy your good times, Cort.

P.S. just recalled (pumphead, me) names of cars I mention above - cousin drives a Studebaker and neighbor has the original everything Studebaker.

Cort, I thought of you as I was out yesterday. I stopped at the hardware store to get some bolts for a home "job" and there was a '68 or '69 Cutlass S parked outside the store. I waited outside until the owner came out and fired her up. Wow, that was a trip in the "wayback machine." Sounds like those old V-8's were what made my younger years so much fun (at least until I discovered the ladies, lol).

Enjoy the nice days, the nice cars and your regianed health, my friend.

Small blocks forever! Vrooom!

Cort,
Welcome back to the road, I'm sure it felt good.
Of course you know the cop sees a classic car going one way vs. an old timer going the other way who will he assume was speeding.
Especially a young cop, he wouldn't even know the difference.

Hensylee...Yep, I had an awesome time :). Course, the sternum soreness was a cost this morning...LOL.... Ah, sweet...Studebakers :). I am partial to Monte Carlos, but I love older cars in general, too :). Got any pics? And yes, tis a shame to let such old cars just sit'n'rot :(.

Steve...ah...someone was thinking of me :). Sounds like a great Cutlass...wish I had seen it, too. But, I saw my share of older cars this past weekend...it was ssssooo good to see those type of cars on the road again :). As for the ladies, I'm still waiting to discover one...and be discovered again ;). And thanks...I do seem to be enjoying all aspects of life again! I guess getting the baby girls out was just yet another sign of my continued recovery :).

Rich...Yep, it felt good...until I got the ticket, of course...LOL! And, yeah, I have a feeling that is how it went with that cop...ah, well...as I mentioned...crap happens...I'll live ;).

Rich, can't be sure all young cops would react with ignorance. I have a young grandson (26) who would've stopped Cort just to look at his car. He just loves cars and old, special ones in particular. And he knows all about 'em - with great appreciation. Bet he would've struck up a conversation right then and there and forgot the ticket altogether! lol

Hensylee,

Gosh darn it...why couldn't that have been your grandson pulling me over Sunday afternoon? LOL! Hmm...I'm only 3 years older than yer grandson...might be neat to talk to him about cars :).

Heh...something else ironic about that for me...the cop clocked me speeding in the less-noticeable (i.e. less standoutish) MC of mine...LOL!

Ah.....irony rocks!

Old cars!

Old cars!

Cort - You would have enjoyed the Antique Auto Museum my daughter and I visited in St. Louis a few weekends ago. Saw a few of my boyhood dreams down there -- '57 Chevy Stretch Limo, '52 Studebakers, Packards, early 60's Mustangs and Corvettes, even a Porsche 914 2.0, Vintage Race Ready. Saw them drive that one out to a new home. Sure was nice to watch.

While we were there they had a meeting of a Studebaker/Packard club. I especially enjoyed walking the lot to see those babies because my first car was a '53 Studebaker. Lots of memories!

Might have to wander out to one of those cruise nights. . . think they would mind my Japanese luxo-rocket in the lot?

Steve,

Sure sounds like I would've enjoyed it! It sounds a bit like the Volo Auto Museum in Volo IL (north east corner of the state).... I was there a few weeks ago...it's great :).

A friend of the family has a '41 Packard and a '79 Cadillac. I believe he is planning to drive the Packard to the all-Packard show this year.....

Nah...we wouldn't mind...as long as you take a good, long look at all of the cars on display...especially, of course, mine ;).
