It was Curtis's first time at Tae Kwon Do last night, i havn't got a letter off his consultant yet because hes away till the 11th. So i'm hoping he wont say he can't do it. I was a bit worried because there was a lot of excersise and he was coughing alot but he said he loved it and only got a tiny bit out of breath. He is also aloud to sit down, if he gets tierd well if he puts his hand up first.

Paula,

What a cutie he is. I hope that his instructor doesn't tire him out too much and that he continues to be willing to work around the warfarin issue after Curtis has his surgery.

Cris

Currently, my husband and a son both take Hop kido, but they took Tae Kwon Do for several years. It is an excellent sport for youngsters. I'm glad Curtis is enrolled in a class, and I hope he is able to continue to participate with few restrictions.

Thanks Chris and Mary, he is so excited about doing a form of Martial arts, that we have to go again in the morning, no more lying in bed:eek: . I think, well i hope he will be ok on the warfarin because he wont be doing any form of the physical contact. He might already have give it up before then, like he did with stage school. Kids

Forgive my ignorance... what is stage school?

Cris
Its a acting school, he did one play on the stage, then give it up because he was board:D

I thought so but was concerned that he was giving it up in anticipation of the warfarin. Happy to hear it was just that he didn't like it.

Hi Paula

Glad to hear Curtis enjoyed his martial art class ( great picture of him)

Being the mum of two boys ( now age 27 and 33 ) I know what it is like with hobbies they join this club and that, we buy all the kit then they get bored,

my eldest played football ( soccer for our US friends ) on a Sunday morning how i remember standing on the park on those cold wet mornings and he did that for about 11 years !!! and hardley ever missed a game

love

I'm kind of p***ed off at the moment. Curtis's consultant came back today and he said that he can't do the TaeKwon Do, his secutary rang my husband but she didn't say why. Iam not taking him in the morning but am hoping to speak to them on monday, to tell them that theres no physical contact, hes just been excersising and learning moves and sometimes kicking pads, In my eyes hes in more danger at school,he got hit in the head with a football at lunch time. Any adults that have done this sport, did you get permision for insurance perposis. I havn't told him yet, he is going to be so gutted any help please

Paula,
I am sorry you got this news but I expected you would. Matt was 1 belt away from his black when they realized he needed his first valve replacement. He was pulled immediately from martial arts. It was too strenuous on his heart and after the surgery to dangerous of a sport.

After his second valve replacement and Konna, I asked his surgeon if he thought Matt would be able to go back with safety precautions in place. He looked at me as if I had 3 heads and said absolutely not and he shouldn't have been involved with this kind of sport in the first place. I often wonder if that was one of the reasons, he had so many extra problems???

Since Matt was so young and never involved in sports, we just let him try different hobbies. Matt's passion is music. He plays guitar, just now in a band and loves collecting and trading them.

Thanks Jeanne, i told him this morning and he was not as bothered as i thought he would be :) , i was going to ring the consultant to tell him there was no physical contact involved but like you said he will probably have no chance of doing it after surgery anyway, so we will find something different. Thanks for the reply

so we will find something different.

((((Paula)))))

*sigh* sometimes it just sucks for our kids! It took Matt a while to find something other than sports he liked. One of my friends sons loves golfing, another one, bowling. Not Matt... Matt was into skateboarding. I allowed it as long as it was on our property and was fully geared with a helmet and pads... LOL Didn't help. He was finished doing his thing one day and was off the board and tipped it up to grab it. I don't know how, but he tripped and fell. Came in the house and said, does my arm look crooked to you??? *sigh* just a little bit... Anyway, it took way over a year to heal! He was involved in a study about the effects of coumadin in pediatric bone growth.

I was thrilled he had music in his life. Drums are great for exercise! lol So are guitars once they get involved!

BTW, my newest worry is Matt going to England in March for a week! The worrying never ends!!! lol

Awww I'm so sorry Curtis has had to give it up, not fair on these children sometimes, but at least he doesnt mind too much.

Chloe does ballet and swimming out of school and I'm thinking that Cutis may not fancy ballet but does he enjoy swimming??

and Jeanne! Where is Matt staying over here??? Which part of Englands he coming too??? Would love to meet up with him - can coo all motherly over him if he'd like???! lol Or perhaps just show him around a bit.

Hi Emma he is not as upset as i thought he would be but he still really wants to do it. Ross is helping me out:) .Is there not alot of excercise involved in ballet because Curtis is only really excercising and kicking pads( not hard kicking). They are not fighting and he has had no contact, apart from the instructor holding his hand to tell him what to do

Quite a lot of exercise in her ballet and swimming classes yeah but she runs around like mad now anyway - at any time and in any situation.
Perhaps they will think again about Curtis' exercise tolerance once his valve is replaced and his regurg isnt causing him problems any more? Does he have pulmonary hypertension at the moment too?? I would have thought that the cardi is trying to put as little pressure as possible on that valve at the moment while its leaking.
Chloe had PH prior to her replacement at 20 months of age and she couldnt do a lot at that time either.

Hope Curtis finds something else he enjoys thats not strenuous for now.

We havn't been told anything, only to let him carry on as normal, which is running around like mad. He is on no medication and doesn't have any symptons other than he gets a cough quite often. He was also allowed to sit down at TaeKwonDo if he got tired but he never did. I will find him something else if we have to, its just that he was so proud. Thanks for your reply Paula x

Oh Emma!!! LOL I would love to have a MOM there for him!! lol London, March 17 - 23 or 24. I do not know which hotel yet and they say central London. This is a dream come true for him... me?? not!! lol It is so tough as they grow up and become independent!

I did e-mail Dan and asked if he would be an emergency contact God forbid something should happen. Now I feel so bad that I did. I can't imagine where my mind was.... But knowing Dan for all these years, I just felt so safe, you know??

As soon as I have definite's, I will let you know. I am sure he would love to meet you! He might not want to come home though! lololol

BTW, Lyn wants to be a chaperone!!!!

Let me know when you know whats going on Jeanne. Can give you all my contact details for Matt then if he needs anyone. What is he over for? Just a holiday or something to do with school??
And I am sure Dan wouldnt mind too!! Don't feel bad, he doesnt think deeply enough to be offended most of the time anyway! lol
I'm only a short train ride from London so it won't be hard at all to meet up with him while he's over here and I know Chloe would love to meet another 'ticking friend'. Why don't you come over with him??!! Lyn, you too - then Janet and Katie could come along for the ride and we can have ourselves a big old reunion! YAY!
