After my pickup became disabled due to Squirrels chewing on the wiring and hoses, I decided that maybe it was time to run them off or eliminate them. (The truck is parked near an Oak Tree and they sometimes take acorns up into the engine compartment to eat. In spite of a copius supply of acorns, I guess they decided to chew on the truck for 'desert'!).

Letting my dog loose whenever I saw them on the ground came to mind, followed by the idea of just shooting them with my shotgun (I live in the country and it's legal here).

THEN I thought about the KICKBACK and COUMADIN.

SO, my questions to the Coumadin user's group are:

Is it safe to shot a shotgun when on Coumadin?

Will the kickback from a shotgun cause bruising?

Just give them some of your Coumadin. LOL:eek:
Actually, it does work, the problem is birds and other animals like the same bait and it will kill them also.

This subject was discussed before and all agreed that if you hold a weapon properly, there is no problem because you are on warfarin.

Just don't do what I did  Double barrel and pull both triggers at the same time. MEGABRUISE.

I know Nathan is planning on hunting this year. We had thought about it before, and it appears to be no worse than everything else he does. What about a bb gun?

I have some (real) rat poison which I occasionally use in the garage, but I'm afraid my 'return-to-the-wild' (when outdoors) 60 lb dog, would eat the dead squirrel(s) if she found them first since she seems to love eating 'road-kill' (mostly baby snakes and frogs on our street).

I could use a single shot .410 shotgun which should do the job and I'm hoping won't leave much of a bruise.

Nothing to a BB gun. No recoil, no nothing, just fun.

Just a warning Ross - I am "Dead-eye Dick" in my family. We've been known to have target competitions with BB guns. I win every time!!!!! Glenn has stopped participating because his ego can't take it any more!:D But I'm not the most gracious winner in the world.

The trick is to sight with both eyes open. (Learned that from my under-cover narc cousin when I was in college. )

I would be more worried about the dog eating the bait- it happened to me
once and resulted in a very expensive vet bill! Besides, you could try a 22
with a bird shot load or better yet just hire Karlynn and buy a box of 22 short loads:D

Park the truck somewhere else?:D ..Try sprinkling Cayenne..or black pepper on the wires. Just read that in my Fast Fixes Solution Book.:D It was suggested for anything that squirrels nibble on.....could work on wires? Bonnie

I got shoulder bruises from my 20 gauge before I was on coumadin but the bruises are no worse after coumadin.

I don't know.

Your welcome to use my .357 Magnum Al. It's just laying around getting old. Just think, one shot and there will be no evidence left either!

Is where the slug lands when it comes down after going right through the animals. Remember, he is aiming up.

I've shot compitition trap both before and after coumadin. I can see no difference. I was worried and careful but had no problem.
Like previously stated, hold the gun right.
In a trap event it isn't uncommon to shoot 200 to 300 rounds a day. Like I said, I've had no trouble with coumadin, just can't get the gun to shoot where the clay birds are.

Ross,
Try this with your 357; Use a case with a magnum primer, for the slug use a chunk of household canning wax. This set up won't kill small animals but helps them rethink their living quarters. It is only good for about 25' though. The trouble is it uses up lots of time cleaning wax from the barrel.

Of course!
