I spoke to my surgeon today about my heart cath.He recommended surgery for Jan 9th! He spoke to me from his cellphone at the airport.Nice guy!!! I asked what would he do if he was in my situation. He said at my age with a mechanical valve he would have surgery in Jan.He said let the mech valve start getting to work so no damage occurs to my heart. He said if I was using a tissue valve,he would wait for surgery. All of this made sense to me.I'm not too keen for surgery but I'm happy to be edging out of the waiting room.

Great news that you have got your date, isn't it funny how we are happy all happy to find out something so scarey, the waiting is a nightmare and finally getting a date is like some peace of mind. I hope you can get on now and have a really great christmas with your children. I put my dec's up last night:D . Take care and best of luck for january Paula x

The Fix Is In Sight

I am glad you got your date! I know what a relief it is! All the best, Brian:)

Big date

Big date

Not quite like getting a date for the prom way back when, is it, but it's certainly a relief. Now you can plan for a good recovery and getting on with your life. Get plenty of rest and relaxation and keep us posted.

I agree with the above. I only had to wait 3 weeks for surgery but it was good to have a date and place. At least you now know you will be fixed and ready to go by Spring and can get out there and play with the kids. Take care.

That's good.

That's good.

I'm glad that you have such a positive feeling about your surgeon. That's wonderful! And you're wait now has a deadline! I'm into my 3rd year of waiting and it's driving me pretty nuts! I know you must feel a mixture of relief and anxiety.

Have a wonderful holiday season. Try to relax and savor every sip of it!

My best to you and your family. Enjoy!!

:) Marguerite

Kevin, Who is your surgeon? Are you going to Union or Hopkins? Good luck, Dan

Glad you have your date, Kevin and put you on the calendar for January 9th. Please be sure to ask away with any questions between now and then- we wish you the best!

Dan-
I'm going to have Dr.Cameron at Hopkins perform the surgery. He's a nice guy and has been there 21 years at cardio surgeon.

Kevin,

I know you may have mixed feelings about getting a date. Somewhat relieved but now possibly at least a little anxious about the surgery. If so, all perfectly normal feelings. Use the time before the surgery to plan for who will take care of your kids while you are in the hospital, assuming your wife will be with you most of the time you are in the hospital. If you do make a pre-sugery to-do-list, don't worry if you do not get everything done. I think few people are able to accomplish their entire list. If possible, see if a relative or close friiend can coordinate with other family and friends to bring meals for you and your family for a least a few days after you return home. Your wife will be too exhausted if she is with you most of the time you are in the hospital.

You most certainly be in my thoughts and prayers as you are waiting for the date to draw closer.

Karl
