I passed 7 gas stations on my way to work today and all were out of fuel except for 2 .... and the limit was $40 at $4.39/gal ... I'm not bitchin, that would kind of be like slapping our Texas Ike victims in the face ... just venting

There is no need for the price gouging and that is exactly what it is. Oil is $101 a barrel. They're using the hurricaine as an excuse to slaughter us once again. There is more then one friggin port that receives oil in the U.S., how long do they think they can keep this up?

Just like one ship lost all of it's fuel oil a year or two back. They acted like the entire supply had been cut and prices for home heating oil went through the roof.

I'm escpecially ticked that the stock market boys made 125% profits on their oil investments for the first 6 months of this year.

Tom,

Coming into work Friday they were talking on the radio about several gas stations being out of gas so I decided to swing in to the gas station just before the Marine Base and top off. Thursday evening this station had Regular for around $3.46. I pumped Friday morning at $3.89. Friday evening I passed the same station and they had $4.49 posted.

Heard on the radio coming in this morning that several gas stations were under investigation for price gouging. Thing is it is hard to prove if the receipts all line up. One place had Regular for $6.10 a gallon and claimed that is what he was being billed by his supplier.

This morning the same place had gas for $4.39.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would consider $3.43 a gallon a BARGAIN!!!!

Our Governor signed an executive order stating that the Attorney General can investigate gasoline price gauging. Soooooo. We'll see if anything beyond a signature takes place.

I can't really complain a lot since I get great gas mileage, but I do feel for those who are stuck with guzzlers and have commutes.

In Texas, we pay 38.4 cents.. and out of that 18.4 cents goes to the Feds..

Together Federal and State excise taxes on fuel account for an average cost of approximately 62 cents per gallon. Rates include Federal excise taxes 18.4 cpg for gasoline and 24.4 cpg for diesel. cpg = cents per gallon

Ohio 46.4 52.4 Surcharge of 3 cpg for commercial vehicles.

Ours is low compared to other states . . . 36 cents . . . . but still too high for my liking!

It now costs $1.43/litre here. That translates to approx. $5.72/US gallon. Stop yer yowlin'. My CooperS costs 1.53/litre, but it goes faster because of it .

Cooker! You can come here! Some people are following the tanker trucks around (wasting gas so they can buy gas). Others are sitting at stations for hours because the station owners are "expecting a shipment anytime" causing traffic jams at every corner. Many of these stations have a policeman sitting in the midst of it for crowd control. I just can't figure out why so many people need gas right now. They should have filled up before the storm and there haven't been many places open since. My office is still without power so I am working at home. The only driving I've done is in the area, looking at damage, and to keep cool while our power was out. I still have about 3/4 a tank.

As far as price...Well, the gas stations here just aren't posting prices. When you can get in, if they happen to have gas, you pay whatever is on the pump. It was $4.85 at a few stations on Thursday - when everyone was trying to top off their tanks before Ike came looking for Tina (and boy was he pissed!).

Even though oil is down, there are numerous refineries out of operation, so the supply is going to be down for awhile. However, the gas we are using now was obviously refined some time ago, so the price increase is totally because the gas stations have our acorns in a sling.

Oil shortage my butt, it's down to $97.69 a barrel. Lowest ever since last May.

Ike wreaks havoc on Texas
Hurricane Ike slammed into the southeast coast of Texas this weekend, killing nine people and leaving 4.5 million people without electricity. But light, sweet crude oil fell $3.80 this afternoon to $97.38 a barrel, when it became clear that the storm had not brought heavy damage to oil rigs.

I heard last night the death toll is up to 21, but some of it was indirect, including an evacuating child hit by a car in a parking lot.

It's not the rigs that are down. It's the refineries. Even if the refineries have power, lots of people in those areas can't get to work. Although it looks like the death toll will be moderate (thank God), the magnitude of the damage is amazing. Only 25% of electric customers have power and that means 1.5 million without. That is residences/buildings, so I'm not sure how many people that translates to. We still have hospitals, businesses, and a major airport shut down! I just received an email from my boss telling me to work at home for the rest of the week. His boss is fighting with corporate for the employees with no power/internet access. Our corporate office thinks they should take PTO! Do people in Minnesota have hearts?

Again, possible future shortages don't account for the hikes in price that are taking place right now.
