Anyone have experience with fetal echo?

Our daughter (mitral valve repair 01/04) is expecting baby in November.
One perinatologist and our daughter's OB want her to have fetal echo. The
2nd perinatologist (long story on why a 2nd specialist) does not feel that a fetal echo is necessary.

I have Experience!

Hello there,

Yes, I had to have a fetal echo for both of my babies because my heart condition was congenital.....Mine was just like an echo on my heart...or for my pregnancy. There is absolutely no pain involved and they just want to do it to make sure that the baby's heart is fine. For my husband and I, it totally gave us piece of mind to know that there weren't going to be any surprises when the baby was born.

That's my two cents worth, so I hope it helped. I say go ahead...what have you got to lose?

Hugs :p

My sister had one run during her pregnancy.
She was high risk (due to age, first time pregnancy, etc.) and there were complications involved.
She said it was no big deal and was relieved to know the baby's heart looked good.

I watched with all of my kids. Yeap, exactly like a heart echo only on the watermelon belly of the pregnant mommy.

Had both of my kids done, it was painless (especially for me since I just had to watch;) ). I believe it was worth it.

I had our daughter and twin sons after my mitral valve repair and I guess because my valvular stenosis was due to Rheumatic Fever, I didn't have anything like that done. Of course, our children were born in 1976 and 1978 so I don't know if they were even doing fetal echos back then. LINDA

never had a fetal echo

never had a fetal echo

My first child was born in 95 with no complications, so when I was pregnant in 2002, we never even considered and were never considered for a fetal echo. I had no other risk factors at the time. However, my son has a heart defect.

I don't know the risk factors for your daughter, but weigh the possibilites and go with your gut instinct. From what I know, they are painless and if it give you peace of mind then that's better. In a way, I'm glad I didn't know anything until after he was born, I guess it just depends on what they are looking for and how they would treat it.

Don't know if that helps much, but that's just my opinion.
