Yeah-

Joe had one of those last year. They're very scary looking. I called the doctor and was told that it was just as your grandson said, a tiny blood vessel broke and there really isn't much blood leaking out, but because it trapped between a couple of layers of tissue it sort of smears out and covers the whole white of the eye. Joe's doc said that as long as there wasn't anything going on with his vision, it should clear up in about a week. And it did, maybe 10 days or so.

Wear your shades, ala "glam star".

Of course, if it gets worse, or your vision becomes impaired, then see the eye doc. But you knew that anyway. :)

Granbonny .... I wonder if it is the coumadin. I had something like that once. & I wasn't on coumadin. It really looked WIERD. My vision was fine, but my whole right eye was BRIGHT red. I went to the opthalmologist. He diagnosed it as an inflammatory condition, either "scleritis" or "episcleritis." He sent me to have a blood test to find out which I had. I had episcleritis. Scleritis is the more serious of the two. Scleritis can be pretty serious. So, if the condition persists, even if your vision is not affected, I'd have it checked out.
I was prescribed two different kind of drops, and after a couple of days it cleared up. I remember that he asked me if I had ever had rheumatoid arthritis. Apparently schleritis is often seen in association with rheumatoid arthritis or other auto-immune diseases.

I Granbonny,
You must have rubbed your eyes really hard, or there is a slight infection. I am on Coumadin and over Christmas had the lenses in both eyes surgically replaced. They did the surgery with lasers and I did not even have to stop the Coumadin. Immediately after the surgery my eyes were not even bloodshot. It was truely amazing!

Hope your situation clears up quickly! But I do like the mysterious new-you pic.

Just be sure to never cough too hard either. Long before I had surgery, I had a real bad coughing spell one time and broke a blood vessel in one eye. I was coughing so hard. So it did take a few days to heal, but did not hurt. You take care.
