Hi, there are quite a few threads in people having visual auras but I've always had those, my problems is that when I'm riding in the car or walking my eyes can't focus on one thing. I can sit still and watch things move but I can't be moving. I was excited my driving restriction was up yesterday but I would end up watching the windshield and not the road, so I'm not going to drive but is this a side effect of sotalol or something or is this just normal after surgery?

I have had a lot more visual auras than normal and I didn't think about it until yesterday when I got one but mine do seem to be worse when I am moving than when I am sitting. I don't know if sotalol makes it worse but I think part of my problem is having to move my head around to try to focus on something. When I am moving I don't have time to work to focus around the aura? maybe? I could just be nuts too my kids accuse me of that frequently but I do know they cause me problems and I am having them much less frequently now.

..... is this a side effect of sotalol or something or is this just normal after surgery?

I did a quick scan of the internet and could not find this as a side effect, but a "light headed or dizzy" feeling is listed as a possible side effect. I would ask your pharmacist and I would also tell your PCP and/or Cardio.

I didn't have that problem on sotalol. I get dizzy from the left over darvocet I take at night. I'm mostly on tylenol during the days now. I still take sotalol, but have been on it 2 years.

Michelle I didn't know what sotalol was so looked it up on wiki.
It is a combined Beta blocker and Calcium channel blocker.
My experience with Beta blockers and their side effects was not a happy one.
While not on Sotalol I was on Beta blockers post surgery for 12 months first Carvedilol and the Metoprolol.
I limited by driving and motorcycle riding until I was taken off them as a lot of the time I didn't feel safe.
I found my reaction time slowed, my peripheral vision decreased. I tended to have a fixation with what I was directly looking at, I assume this was because my mental ability to rapidly process information from a quick glance was decreased. Some days were worse than others. These problems resolved within weeks of stopping Beta blockers.
