Ok, this is confession time as well as time to tell what I have really learned during this past week and a half.

I have been overweight ever since chemo(don't ask me how I gained but I did) and then when I was too sick with my valve prior to surgery I put on more. I talk a good story about exercise, but it such a chore to get my butt off the couch after supper and dishes! I do the farm work, but it isn't anything different from day to day most times. I am pretty sedentary in the classroom--you can only walk so far in a 30 x 20 room.

I have had blood pressure problems (140- 160s) since surgery especially during the school year. And I really want to get off all meds.

So I joined Weight Watchers On Line. I don't have time for meetings and stuff like that does not interest me. I really like the on line plan. I can eat what I want within the points. I also need to exercise for the plan to work.

Well--excuse me while I toot my horn--I am doing great. The best part is the 20+ point drop in the blood pressure. I exercised moderately 30 minutes a night for 5 nights last week, an hour walk Saturday and back to 30 min. a night this week. By Sunday, my bp was in the 120s. Yesterday and today it was 117 and 114. And I have lost 4 pounds. And I don't even feel cheated with the holiday goodies I can only nibble. Sunday at our family dinner, I found myself being turned off by some of my more obese relatives piling it on the plate two and three times...nothing like a new convert to be critical...I know I have to watch that.

I feel good and just wanted to pass this on. I still have to talk to myself to get on the exer-cycle or take a walk, but I do it now, because I know it is worth it. I have been walking maybe one or two days a week, but not very religiously until now. I am so happy with the drop in bp and weight.

I'm sorry if I am insufferable.

Jean,

Congratulations! I think that's just wonderful. It has also converted you to being a believer in exercise. What a great gift you have given to yourself this Christmas! Lower Blood Pressure, weight loss and understandably a healthier life style. You are also an inspiration to many others (especially newcomers)to realize the importance of exercise as part of their daily lifes. My hat goes off to you! Have A Merry Christmas!

Now you're talkin'!!

Now you're talkin'!!

Way to go, Jean!

It's very hard work for us "high-maintenance" people to get into an exercise habit and keep it that way. I know what you're saying about turning down foods and snacks and all. It does make you feel good and very few others understand, so I'm glad to hear your horn tootin'. Sounds good to my ears.

Your exercise will also help lower any bad cholesterol readings you've had!

Keep on truckin.'

Happy Holidays.

Hi Jean,

FANTASTIC!!! Keep that positive trend going, and don't go feeling guilty or bad due to the holidays. We all slip alittle during the holiday period either from eating or the busy schedules trying to get things done that usually means forfitting the exercise routine. But, Just so long as you look at it as a short vacation, and get right back to it you will continue on that wonderful positive ride to good health.

Working out does become addicting, especially after you have been at it for a few months and start to see some results. That can be a good thing, it keeps ya coming back again and again. Kinda like golfers that hit that great shot, even though there were several others that were real bad. It keeps them coming back again and again!

Congrat's to you... Hope the year 2002 is a healthy one for you!

Happy Holidays,

Rob

It is great that you have your own incentive going on here and doing super. You are going to be my inspiration. I have quite a bit of weight to lose myself, some came on while sick with heart problems. But I am trying to cut down on my sin, sodium. And it is hard to change bads habits for good one. But my blood pressure has always been within normal range, it had rarely been high except for a few times for sign of a problem. So keep up the good work and keep us all updated. I try to walk as much as I can. Thanks for sharing with us.
