Does anyone here know anything about lung function and breathing abnormally when exercising? I had the exercise stress test today and the also measured my breathing, oxygen and the other things as well. Everything came back within nomral except for my breathing not increasing with the addt'l exercise. The only way I can explain it is that when your exercise you generally take more breathes or work twice as hard to get enough air - but your body does it automatically.. And apparently even as the stress test increased and I exercised harder my body never adjusted how I breathed or took in air. The values where all abnormal and my lung vloume was below the average reading .. Just a rough estimate but say with exercise you are supposed to breathe at a 45% level I was at 30% or lower. They are waiting to get teh final report back on the stress test and then my Cardio will call me with what he thinks we should do but for now have to wait until then. The exercise physiologist (tech who did exam) wasnt even sure why that was but he was concerned. This also might explain my shortness of breathe but certainly curious what is going on..

Otherwise heart rate and BP adjusted to exercise pretty normally and no real problematic rhythyms showed up during exercise. And just some fairly mild lightheadedness. Cardio did increase my Nadolol from 20mg to 40mg as heart rate is still high.

Any comments welcome and i'll update you as I find out info.

Erica,

Do you have allergies or asthma? I wouldn't spend energy worrying until your cardio interprets the report. You may want to ask for pulmonary function tests, if you haven't already had them. This can show how well your lungs are functioning.

I take Advair to help with SOB and am doing fine.

Could It Be Pulmonary Hypertension?

Could It Be Pulmonary Hypertension?

Hi Erica,
I have a ton of respiratory problems (Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis, Sleep Apnea, and now Pulmonary Hypertension), and I am wondering if you shouldn't be checked for PH...Better to be safe than sorry. I hope to god that this isn't it, but if it is than it's better that they caught it early. Please take care, and I hope your feeling better. Harrybaby666 :D :D :D :D

Don't panic until you get the final report and have the consult with your doctor. Many things can be tweaked to improve things, and you could also be sent to a pulmonologist for a complete pulmonary workup.

This is all to the good for you, since a problem has been identified and now can be treated.

I hope it just means a medication adjustment for you.

Hi guys -
Thanks for the suggestions and I will definetly keep you al up to date on what is gonig on and whyt I find out if I do find anything out. Have copies of my latest Echo report so also mulling those over.

HarryBaby - I don't know anything about PH - can you tell me anything? Hopefully though it isnt this who knows and I won't worry to much until I do get results.

Nancy - I am not worrying really about what it could be - just really curious and will be interested to see what comes out of it and if this may explain some of my symptoms.

Kim - I have had PFt testing and my Cardio did have those copies and said the where mildly abnormal as well as the obvious breathing test part of the stress test being abnormal. But he doesnt want to make any decisions or conclusions before report comes back. I know my primary Dr. all along has suspected Asthma as a problem so will see.

Thanks Again,
Erica

Hi Erica

Hi Erica

Pulmonary Hypertension is High Blood Pressure in the Pulmonary Artery that goes between the heart and the lungs. The symptoms I have been having are chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, extreme weakness, and other crap. lol anyway, with me, it's caused by my Sleep Apnea, and because I have had lung trouble all my life, the doctors explained to me that because of this, it is now taking it's toll by damaging my heart, thus the CHF, Valve Problems, and Cardiomyopathy. It's a very dangerous disease, and like I said a while ago, I don't want to panic you, I just am trying to help you seek answers...if you find out that you don't have it, that will be super fantastic, and if you find that you do have it, hopefully, it will have been caught early. I hope this helps you...Take care, Harrybaby666 :D :D :D
