I was talking to a friend of mine regarding how I'll be so glad to get this heart surgery behind me so that I can start exercising again. I have to be so careful what I eat because I'm a diabetic. Although every once in a while I just have to have chocolate. He just sent this to me and I thought it was so funny that I wanted to share it with you all. :) :) :) :) :)

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it ... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live long? Take a nap.

Q. Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A. You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable.)

Q. How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A. Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q. What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A. Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is. No Pain...Good.

Q. Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A. You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q. What's the secret to healthy eating?
A. Thicker gravy.

Q. Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A. Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q. Is chocolate bad for me?
A. Are you crazy? HELLO .... cocoa beans .... another vegetable!!! It's the best feel good food around!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

Now go have a cookie....flour is a veggie!

Oh ....and if swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

One of my brother's professors in college prescribed to the "finite heartbeats" philosophy...

We extended it to say that sneezing (which stops your heart for a moment) should be done more often, if not encouraged...

But that then led us to having to kick up dust in the room by cleaning it, which would mean doing work which would raise our heart rates anyways...

By teh way, my brother also figured out that ice cream no longer qualified as a "food" while in college and therefore he could eat as much as he wanted.

he's quite a bit heavier than I am now.

I'm the older, shorter, lighter, brother.

We won't get into who's faster or smarter, that's kind of relative to the test you apply.

We're both DAMNED crazy though! :D

Glenda that was great. It's getting emailed to my friends.

It reminds me of a list I saw on how to calculate the effective calories in food. It said something like.

Eating standing up - subtract 50% of the calories
Children's food (ie - Oreo Cookies) - 0 calories - since you aren't a child
1/2 cookie now, 1/2 cookie 15 minutes later - subtract 75%, 50 for eating only 1/2 at a time and 25% for the calories burned off to walk to get the other half.

... and let's not forget:

biscuits that are broken have no calories as they have all leaked out, and food taken off other people's plates are calorie-free as the calories are their's and stick to their plates.

Boy - who knew healthy eating could be so gratifying!! :D

A : )

Exercise is excellent. I am a diabetic also, for a year now. Have lost 75 pounds so far. I will be seeing both the PCP for the diabetes and Cardio for the cardio next month. They both will be happy for the more pounds lost. I walked more and cut down the sugars. I am still a bit bad on the pasta, but have worked hard on the potato chips. I eat the low fat and baked chips. I try to be good on lowering the sodium. You keep hanging in there and work hard on the diet and exercise. Ever try arobics, good cardio workout. Have a great day and take care.

Hmmmm........I think I like some of the attitude coming forth here!

I was reading the label of the low carb peanut butter in the store. A man came up to me and showed me a "natural" peanut butter that had no "partially hydrogenated oils" in it. The one I had in my had was nice and creamy...........his had about an inch or more of oil floating on the top. He said his would help prevent heart disease. He even gave me his business card if I needed any vitamins. I didn't know the man and I don't think I spoke ten words to him.

I'm enjoying my "low carb" peanut butter in celery. I can't watch everything! I watch salt, fat, vitamin K, calories, carbohydrates, fiber and fluid intake. Enough is enough!

Low Carb, pfffffffft. A dead mans diet and everyone is falling for it. Eat, drink, and be married err merry. Want some Pringles?
