I had a chance to grab my camera and head out early, looking for something to photograph in the early morning light. The first picture I liked was of the Jemez river, and I am posting that here.
A little ways up from this location was a beautiful pinto colt whose picture I had been wanting to take for some time. There are a few horses in a beautiful fenced in pasture, with this river on one side and a pretty little irrigation ditch on the other. I didn't really get any good picture of the horses. They kept avoiding the sunlight for some reason, and I was starting to freeze in the early morning mountain air. Plus, they just seemed to be acting very strange. After I had held still for quite a while, I realized there was a pack of coyotes trying to separate the colt from the herd. I counted at least eight coyotes. I got one picture of some of the coyotes, and a few pictures (without benefit of proper light) of the horses. If you want to get a little idea of what was going on, you can see these pictures at:
