OH JOY !

An old Sebaceous Cyst site seems to have become re-inflamed. Can this be excised while still on Coumadin?

If not, I wonder if I can schedule a Triple Procedure at my local hospital to excise the cyst, have an upper endoscopy, and colonoscopy all on the same day and thus only have to undergo bridging therapy one time? (I think I can guess the answer to that one! :( )

I just had my fourth cebaceous cyst cut out a week ago today. I had to look around a while to find a surgeon who would do it. He used lots of cauterization and stitches, and I still have bleeding issues a week later, but it was an outpatient proceedure.

I went to see my PCP this afternoon (work-in appt).

He decided NOT to excise the cyst, but to put me on an anti-biotic instead (Levaquin 500 mg), for 10 days, advising me to cut my Coumadin from 3.5 mg / day to 2.0 mg / day to (hopefully) counteract the expected rise in INR from the anti-biotic.

Given my 'difficulties' with antibiotics, I think I'd rather he just 'cut it out'...or referred me to a surgeon who would.

If your blood loss is likely to be less than a quart, I try to find a dermatologist or surgeon. What is a week's worth of oozing like Jim had if compared to a lifetime of paralysis?

I went through quite a regimen of antibiotics and creams and lotions and such stuff before I found a surgeon to cut it out.
My last round of antibiotics (to remove the infection before he cut it out) saw my INR fall instead of rise.

Incision and oozing

Incision and oozing

Hello AlCapshaw

This morning I had the "cutaneous horn" removed from my cheek in the outpatients department fully warfarinized (3.4). As Al remarked the bleeding was much less than a quart more like a tablespoon. Applied a pressure pad for 5 minutes and went home. Later it oozed a little but as more pressure made it ooze more I just held the pad under it for a couple of minutes.

Incision about an inch long, dr. stitched as he cut--I'm just fine, but I'll probably have a scar and a sleepless night--it's sore.

Cheers
