My surgery was performed at Oklahoma Heart Institu
I shall preface this note by saying that this is not a scary video. It is very professionally done and I found it very reassuring to watch. There is a little blood but not much and even that is cleaned up very quickly. This video is even available to Doctors for CME credit and is the best I have found. It lasts about an hour and covers most of the operation from the beginning through to observing the heart beat on its own after the replacement is completed. Two surgeons outside of the operating theatre provide a running commentary and periodically chat with the surgeon performing the operation. They make it look pretty simple but the commentary helps one appreciate some of the important details. As for me, I think it will help when I speak with the surgeon (Oh, no!) I guess I should say "my surgeon" in a couple of weeks.

I know those two physicians very, very well. In fact, Dr. Reul is the son of Dr. George Reul who performed my last OHS at St. Luke's in 2006. And then of course, Dear Dr. Cooley is the surgeon that performed my first 2 OHS in 1975 & who I just visited with in May of this year!!!

Thank you for sharing this link!!! :)
