I have done a fairly thorough search of AstraZeneca websites updated in the last month and I can find nothing about Exanta and mechanical heart valves. They have plans listed up through beyond 2006 and this is not on them. I'm wondering if they have given up on seeking approval for use of this drug with mechanical heart valves. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal this week about how the marketing department drives research now. The marketing people may have decided that the chance of a lawsuit settlement, should someone get a clot on Exanta, wiping out any profit potential is too great.
They do say that they have not revealed everything on their website because of the need for competitive advantage so there could be something lurking. However, there are no published reports on the US National Library of Medicine website about even an animal study.
My take is "Don't try to hold your breath until it comes out"
