Hi All,

I'm a long term lurker in the waiting room, who has never posted before.... essentially because every issue/question I might have had has already been explored.

Eva Cassidy has not. About two months ago, I stumbled into this amazingly gifted and uncategorizable young lady's CD on the local library's shelf. I had been aware of the name, since she was a local Maryland resident who briefly was in the news in 1996. I won't say anymore. The story is truly, truly remarkable, and you'll have to choose your own adjectives for the lady's voice and music (might find thesaurous helpful, when you run out).

If you are curious, take a Look/See at www.evacassidy.org --(note .org not .com) Roam as you like but don't miss sampling the guest book and use the links to sample some of Eva's music. Don't know if one can separate the Story from the Music...but the Music and the Voice has a quality that may take you somewhere you've never been before.

Starting points: Over the Rainbow...(yes), Fields of Gold, People Get Ready, Wonderful World (yes, Louis Armstrong's), I Know You By Heart, Song Bird........

One might find Eva to be like a valve replacement, in that they both will be forever viewed as a Before and After demarcation. But....what do I know, I'm only in the waiting room?

Enjoy.

I love Eva Cassidy! She has a tragic tale, but her songs and her voice are absolutely incredible. Her version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" sends shivers down my spine. A VR.com member - Jamjude - did a stunning rendition of Over the Rainbow that sounds very similar to Eva Cassidy's. She is worth checking out!!!

Eva Cassidy was an amazing singer. It's too bad she isn't here to enjoy the success that her music has had, although from what I understand she really wasn't interested in the limelight anyway- she just loved to sing. I love her music although I haven't listened to it too much lately because it takes a certain frame of mind to not be saddened by it.

The tragedy, to me, is but a small part of the story. I knew of the tragedy part, within months of hearing "of" her. Seven years later, fate had me finally hear her. From that point on, I started finding out how her music, her friends, and a growing, world-wide legion of devoted fans more or less "willed" her to the top without the sponsorship of the record industry. That top will never have a world-wide tour, or sold out stadium, and that is good, because that would have been ..... mostly a hassle..... and a tragedy to her.

To some, the knowlege of her tragically cut-short career might bring a melancholy to her already haunting music that might make one shy away from listening to her at times. With me, I hear her singing it her way... for little personal gain or glory, obviously enjoying every moment... while at the same time providing every future listener with something they can cherish from that moment on for as long as their heart may beat and spirit endure. That brings tears of joy to me. I guess I'm just a "half-filled" kinda guy.

I'll mention that I see this forum community having more than a "half-filled" kind of spirit. I never see any thing tragic in any of your stories. The group never fails at helping its membership to perservere and "will" themselves through any and all adversity with nary a down-beat.

Uplifting stories both.

Hello,
I listened to Eva's music before I knew her story. She was one of those that could touch your heart, even in her electric tunes.
Yes it is sad that she isn't here anymore, but it is happy she left us such gifts.
