I have been having spells of irregular heartbeats which I had posted in another thread. Tonight I kept getting one right after the other and they would last a minute or so. I would cough with the force of my heart kicking and my chest was getting really sore. I called the after hours number for my regular doc and he said to go to the ER so I did. The doctor there said I was in Pulminary v-tach with a heart rate of 160. They ran a ton of labs and electrolytes were normal and my T4 levels were good too. My regular doctor had increased my thyroid medicene from 125 to 175 last week but I had only gone as far as increasing to 150 (we argue thyroid all the time). The ER doc said that could have agravated my heart. The ER doc increased my toporol from 25 twice a day to 50 twice a day. I see my regular doctor tomorrow. I am still getting spells of irregular heartbeat now that I am home so I really hope this increase in toporol works because this is painful, exhausting and scary. I was doing so good last week and this is a setback for me. I didn't even get to take a decent walk today. These irregular beats are really scary.

Hi Jody--It may be your thyroid med. I too have had thyroid cancer and my cardiologist keeps my thyroid med on the lower side because of the potential for rapid heart rate. I take 112.5mcg.

Jody, I ask myself frequently what's normal and what's not. I think most of us do from time to time. Right now I can't sleep because I am having irregular heart beats and hear my pulse in my ears. My irregular heart beats usually last for an hour or so. I have been told by my cardiologist, and others that have experienced this, that it is normal as my heart continues to heal. My cardiologist also told me that this may be with me for the rest of my life. I guess that's not a bad tradeoff as my future before surgery was a little bleak.

I wish you the very best,

Dan

so sorry to hear this. Have you run all this past your regular cardiologist? I know that Katie's ped runs anything new past her card if she is in doubt. Katie's heart continued to JET for 2 and 1/2 weeks post-op before she finally went back in sync. But this really sounds like it might be the increased dosage in your thyroid med.................dunno. Pick up the phone and call your card. Keep us posted and no more ER trips, OK? Hugs. Janet

Jody, sorry to see what you are going through. I just thought I would tell you that I have big problems with irr. hb...a.fib, SVT and some VT. I started taking magnesium a few months back and there has been a definite improvement. I take 300mg / 600mg alternate days. Might be worth a try. You could run it by your doctor but Im pretty sure the worst thing it could do is have you going to the bathroom a bit. If this happens just cut back to 300mg daily. I noticed an improvement after about 10 days. Best wishes.

Jody, I'm glad you went to the ER. I hope your doctors find some answers.

I'm sorry to read this Jody.
I sure hope the medication puts a quick end to them.
Hang in there!
