Dear friends: After my AVR surgery with mechanical valve and Coumadin, some doctors and nurses told me it would be convinient for
me to use a bracelet engraved with my data.
But I don't remember what I need to get engraved on that bracelet
besides the word "Coumadin"!
Can you help me with this, please?

How about "forgetfulness":)
Only kidding; coumadin, mechanical heart valve, and any allegies you may have or significant other chronic medical conditions - asthma, diabetes, etc.

If you join Medic Alert, for about $35 a year they will maintain your medical info in their database for a year. The bracelet is included in the first year's membership and they will even help you to figure out what info to include on the bracelet if you call them. You can maintain the info yourself online and the bracelet includes an 800 # the medical personnel can call to get additional "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) info.

MedicAlert bracelet

My MedicAlert bracelet has Mitral & Aortic Valve Replacements; Type 2 Diabetes; On Anticoagulants. Then the telephone number for MedicAlert and my MedicAlert number. Anyone can telephone from anywhere in the world toll free and can be told the medication that I am on, the manufacturer of my valves, the serial numbers of the valves, my doctor's details etc.

Definitely go with MedicAlert. There is a form to fill out on-line and then you talk to a live (really) person who will go over the form with you and determine what info might be helpful to paramedics or ER folks immediately. Mine says, mitral valve replaced, takes coumadin, A-fib, drug allergies and my profile number and the phone number to call for specific allergy information. It all fits on the bracelet.

You can update your profile at any time if things change and the people there are great.

I agree, it's well worth it. I've taken first aid, CPR, and other classes with the captain of a local Fire dept. He said that in rescues/accidents they really do look for medical alert bracelets, and use them for getting vital info. Brian

It's more like a declaration of necessity or dependence, don't you think? My guy had a whole laundry list of things on his necklace when he had a stroke in the local pub some years ago. Paramedics found his epistle on the necklace and had a treatment plan going, with his specifications, at once. Saved a whole lot of time and may well have saved him too.
Kindest regards,
Blanche

I have COUMADIN THERAPY and ST JUDE MECHANICAL HEART VALVE on mine, along with my name and phone number.

I am not one to wear jewelry. However, I wear know a braclet on my right arm. On the front, it has the medical insignia, my name, phone #, taking coumadin, and that I have a mechanical aortic valve. On the back, it states I have a graft on the ascending aorta and it has the phone number of the office for my cardiologist.
