I went to the doctor last week with a sinus infection and was put on an antibiotic for five days. Today (less than a week later) I was back in the doctor's office after suffering through the weekend with a horrible cough and wheezing. I now have asthmatic bronchitis. He gave me a breathing treatment in the office and then sent me home with more antibiotic, prednisone, and an inhaler of albuterol. How will all this affect my INR, especially the prednisone? Thanks for the help. LINDA

Twinmaker, I was on predisone last winter
for pnemonea and needed to watch my inr
it would stay normal, then unexpectedly go
higher quickly, for me anyhow i closely watched
my inr and was warned by my Doc and pharmacy
to be aware it could effect my inr,i'm not sure
what instructions you've been given, but thought
i'd share my experience with it.
Do hope you soon are over this.......take care.:)

I was on a high dose of predisone for a couple months. Due to some kidney
issues. I really did'nt have a problem with my INR just kept a close eye in it.
Hope you feel better soon. :)

Prednisone can make it go up. You should probably be as worried about the antibiotic though. Some might cause the INR to go down. Most of them seem to cause it to go up.

I've been on warfarin for ten years. My dose is stable 3mg/day, 21 mg/wk.
A year ago I developed polymyalgia rheumatica for which the treatment is 10 mg prednisone/day. This is a fairly high dose and I did not notice any effect on my INR. I home test with INRatio every two weeks.
