A report from me ....
On Monday of this week I had my 1 year echocardiogram to see how my homograft aortic valve is doing. Cardiologist said it "looks OK" which was a relief because I had been having some chest area discomfort since late January .... ER docs said it was probably muscular-skeletal but it was nice to finally have confirmation from my cardiologist.
I am seeing my heart surgeon in two weeks for my 1 year followup with him, I would presume he will go over the results in greater detail?
Another issue I'm having is possible atrial fibrilation. A week ago Monday I was doing an aerobic workout and just when I was about finished I noticed my heart rate jump on the heart monitor and I felt lightheaded. I mentioned it to my cardiologist when I saw him this Monday and he said it could be a-fib. I've had a couple more episodes of lightheadedness this week (including at lunch today) so I contacted my cardiologist and he is going to put me on a loop monitor for a month.
I've had a-fib in the past, and my surgeon planned to correct it with the Cox-Maze procedure when I had my valve replacement, but there were problems that came up that prevented the complete procedure from being done. Dr. O'Keefe (cardiologist) said Monday that they were able to do part of the procedure. I was unaware of that previously; when they talked with me right after the surgery they made it sound like they weren't able to do the Cox-Maze at all.
