There are all these acronyms on the echo report and it frustrates me no end to not know what they mean. Can anyone help me figure out what the codes are? I can guess a few. (and what does m/s mean?)

RVDdb : 4.46 cm- Right Ventricle Diameter
IVS: .87 cm
LVPW: .96 cm - Left Ventricle Posterior Wall
Ao: 3.57 cm
LAD: 3.85 cm
LVDdb: 6.01 cm
LVDsb: 3.07 cm
TR: 2.11 m/s
TRp: 17.80 mmHg
MVe: 1.18
MVa: .53
EAr: 2.23
IVRT: 52.63 ms
AV: 1.18 m/s
AVp: 5.58 mmHG

Thank you! Does EAr mean they measured my ear?

RVDdb - Right Ventricle Diameter diastolic (to check for enargement)

IVS - Intraventricular Septum thickness, meaning the wall between the right and left ventricles (it enlarges with the other heart walls if the enlargement is concentric)

LVPW - Left Ventricle Posterior Wall (thickening shows enlargement of the heart)

Ao - Aortic Opening

LAD -:Left Atrium diameter (to check for enlargement)

LVDdb - Left Ventricular Diameter diastolic (with LVDsb, to check for enlargement and also for stiffness or incontractibility)

LVDsb - Left Ventricular Diameter systolic

TR - Tricuspid velocity (speed of blood flowing through the valve)

TRp - Tricuspid pressure (pressure of blood flowing through the valve)

MVe - Mitral Early Peak Filling Velocity when filling the left ventricle (used to help determine diastolic function)

MVa - Mitral Late Peak Filling Velocity when filling the left ventricle (used with MVe to help determine diastolic function)

EAr - E-wave Acceleration/Deceleration Ratio (used to help determine or corroborate diastolic disfunction)

IVRT - Isovolumic Relaxation Time (used to determine contractibility of the heart)

AV - Aortic Valve Velocity (speed of blood through the valve)

AVp - Aortic Valve Pressure (pressure of blood as it flows through the valve)


m/s is meters per second

ms is milliseconds

mmHG is millimeters of mercury (same measurement use for barometric pressure)
