Hi All,

I haven't posted in a long time, but now I have a question. A few years ago my PCP heard a loud murmur, sent me for an echo which showed mild aortic stenosis. In between then and now I have had 2 other echo's which showed nothing but trace regurg. on 3 valves.

I went to my PCP last week for prescription refill and checkup. He again commented on the loud murmur and that it radiates faintly to the carotids. So he wants me to have another echo. I haven't had one for almost 2 years.

My question is this, do you all think this echo is necessary? The last 2 showed no stenosis, our insurance isn't the best and we would probably have to pay for most of it, and our money is tight right now.

I don't want to pay that kind of money to find out nothing is wrong, but again if there is something causing the murmur, why can't they find it?

Anyway thanks for reading my question, any suggestions or advice welcome.

Did your insurance pay for the previous Echos?

If so, Why do you think they would NOT pay this time?

A 2 Year interval is standard for following a Low or Moderate Risk patient.

If in doubt, Call your INSURANCE Company and ask if they would cover a followup Echo on your Doctor's recommendation. (You don't need to give them any more information, just that your Doctor thinks it is advisable and that it has been 2 years since your last echo).

Of course Deductables and Co-Pays also enter into the equation.

Gambling on 2 year old data is NOT wise, especially if your Doctor is concerned. A LOT change in 2 years.
