Received my bill today from my echo..Done at Card's office on Sept4th.. Echo in office..$675.00 ...Doppler colorflow $325.00 ...doppler echo.exam, heart..$400.00. Total $1, 128.35 Patient due..$271.65 Last year.. had 1 at 3 months post-op..No charge.. This year. I pay 20% at every dental visit, doctor visit. Asked my PCP yesterday at office. Do I owe yall anything. yes, $32.00 from Physical I had last month. Paid it.. Had the woman's thing yesterday..so expect another 20 % bill. Will probably get another bill from Card's office 2 days ago. Follow-up..he stayed a whole 5 minutes. He said, you are doing great. asked me. do you have sob? I said why? He said, well you said something about it before surgery. I said, only when I eat a big dinner and try to walk up hill in front of house. So, I guess I can expect this echo bill ..once a year. Anyone else have an echo this expensive? Bonnie

I'd have to scourge around and find mine, but the one from a year ago was around $975 or so, if I remember correctly. Nothing is cheap.

You might want to check your policy and see, but most plans like that have a deductible to be met and once it is, they pay all of the expenses.

My echos usually run about $1000.
Diagnostics covered at 100%.

We pay a left lung premium for our company and it's employees. Better get something good out of it, correct?:)

Best insurance we ever had was private insurance provided by a former employer. Actually, my surgery was covered under that policy.:D

Thanks ross

Thanks ross

Thinking back..I'm sure I had a PCP visit..and Card 6 months ago.. All should be about $500.00 deductable by now. Hope so..Will throw them in a pile and wait.:p Have a bone scan and mammogram Oct. 14th. PCP also scheduled me for a consult with colonscopy Dec. 15th. No way will i have that first of next year. With no deductable. The first of year. Maybe next fall. Did you hear, there is a new thing out..for colons. Just drop in toilet? It will tell you about your colon? CVsSdrug stores are selling them...Bonnie

Bonnie,

A friend's mom runs her husband's medical practice and is very familiar with medical billing. Her advice to me was to call up and speak to the financial/billing manager and ask them to be billed at the going rate insurance companies are paying. She said it helped to do a little research on your own (if possible) to see what the insurance companies are paying. This amount is often less than "retail price". My insurance company sends me statements saying what the doctor charged and what they actually ended up paying for that service. The most dramatic difference was the cardiac cath, for which the doctor charged $9,000 and the insurance company paid $3,000. I'll look up the echo and see what they say. . .
