Well Mr. Stable INR just messed up. I have been somewhat under (summer cold I think) the weather and forgot my PM dose until the next AM, then forgot the next AM till this PM, and may have missed one all together, can?t recall. Anyways my Couguchek just tested at 1.9 and I think it may go a little lower before it gets better. I have Lovenox on the shelf but think I will hold off and test in 24hr. Bi-leaflet St Jude in aortic so I?m not to concerned yet. Thought I was smart enough and stopped using my 7 day pill box, gezzzz, won?t do that again??.Just tested my wife (normal blood) on the Cougucheck , 1.0, got love this little machine...

I use a 7 day pill box AND chart all my meds / exercise / symptoms on a 'data sheet' numbered for each day of the month.

When I miss a dose (normally taken at night), IF I catch the miss the next morning, I divide the missed dose by 3 and take that in the mornings for the next three days. That seems to minimize any wild swings from taking too little or too much on any given day.

I use a 7 day system as well. I tried to always take the same dose of coumadin everyday but it just didn't work out as I had planned. I'm on 39mg a week and find it is no problem at all using a 7-day pill planner box.

Randy, you are a good example of how important it is to selftest and selfdose.
You caught the problem early and will correct it quickly. Also, you will not undergo the trauma of getting an arm stick at a central lab and waiting to get some advice from your doctors office that might cause you to yoyo. The Oracle at Delphi warned people to KNOW THYSELF and do NOTHING IN EXCESS. Good advice for valvers on Coumadin.

I have the 4 week pill box.......for coumadin ONLY.........Leave it on Hutch in kitchen. I used to take it at night..but with Evening schedules..Away, ect. now I have gone to mornings when I make the morning coffee......Make coffee, take coumadin, let the cat out. :D Randy, you will be fine..doing what you said. just don't take it for 3 days.
