Hi all,
Was just wondering if anyone can help.
Over the past week, Chloe has developed a dry cough at night-times that can go on for quite a while - drink doesnt helo it either.
I was putting it down to the heat but shes still doing it again tonight and its a bit cooler now.
Anyone got any ideas? Is it worth a trip to doctors if it continues?? Not wanting to do a paranoid mum bit so asking here first.

Thanks
Emma

Sounds like it might be the enalapril. ACE inhibitors have the reputation for causing this. There are others that might not cause it (I took lisinopril and hacked and hacked; went back on Mavik and am fine).

Of course, might just be allergies - have you tried saline nasal spray? I'm sure she'd hate it, but it really helps moisturize the nasal passages and the throat.

Poor Chloe! Poor mom.

Take a hard look at her medications and see if one of them may be causing it. If so, see if they can put her on something else.

Just another more far-reaching thought - does she have allergies? Don't know with the climate in England if they are as prevalent there as they are here.

Dry cough

Dry cough

I find it a good rule of thumb that if a new symptom appears and lasts more than a week, and your intuition tells you to be seen for it, then by all means go to the doctor. I could be completely wrong, but if it turns out to be nothing at least you have gained peace of mind. Peace of mind in my opinion is worth a lot!

Hope Chloe's cough is better!

I was kind of thinking along the lines of Georgia. Did the docs increase her enalapril at the last visit? Katie had the dry captopril cough for a while, but it eventually went away. Since Chloe has been on enalapril, I would not think that was it unless the dosage was increased.

Anyway, hope it's gone and doesn't develop into something with a wet, yukky cough. Many hugs. J.

Always best to check it out, Emma. My 8 year old granddaughter had a dry cough for weeks which the doctor prescribed an antibiotic for- first one didn't touch it, second one knocked it out.

Hi again,
Thankyou all for the input! Much appreciated!!
At the request of the lovely Janet, I've come to update this one.
Chloe had no cough last night and so far so good tonight too, so we shall see. I know dry night time coughing is a sign of asthma so I'm keeping an eye. If she coughs overnight still next week, shes off to the doctors for a check. I am pretty sure its not her meds doing it - shes been on enalapril at her current dose for a long time now so I dont think thats causing it. Another thought is hayfever or allergies developing as it has been incredibly hot here the past week or so - hotter than Florida on two days apparently I am pleased to say!! LOL
I'll let you know how she gets on
Thanks again
