Sometimes when you have a prescription the directions/pharmacists may say 'do not take within 2 hours of taken any supplements'
Warfarin is a prescription, would the above rule apply?

Example: if you were to take your warfarin dosage at 5:00pm, can you take your vitamins/supplements within the next 2 hours or should you wait till after the 2 hours are up?

I take metamucil, which tends to deaden the effectiveness of anything taken close to it. So that over the counter supplement gets its own time slot. Maybe there are other supplements that should be spaced out for similar reasons.

Thanks Jim, I forgot about that. You don't want to take an antiacid or something like Metmucil before Coumadin. Safest bet is ask the pharmacist.

I have been told and i know things are very different in the UK, but not to take any over the counter meds at all, i was told even a cough bottle was not allowed, i to was told and its wrote right across my Warafrin book, no cranberry or grapefruit juice and i do know you guys do drink it over there. I dont have much faith in the clinic i go too as many of you might know they have messed my dosage on a number of times. So i am ok to take a multi vit them, i always took them before i was on warafrin, and also a took a high dose of vit c.
Thanks Jane

My Coumadin is taken alone, directly after dinner at 6:45
Vitamins are taken with my lunch.
It sure makes sense not to take antacids or laxatives with Coumadin. It would get flushed. :)

When I was on coumadin, I always took it at dinner with no other medications at that time. The exact dosage of coumadin is too important to risk having anything but total absorption of complete dose IMO

I take a morning med that cannot be taken with anything containing calcium so I hold off until lunchtime for my calcium and multi vitamin.

Jane my friend, we gots lots of educashun to do with you. Cranberry juice has been cleared. Grapefruit juice is another story. I still drink it, but I wait for at least 4 hours after taking my Coumadin to have it. Grapefruit juice can have some nasty interactions with other drugs, so be careful and check into it before downing a glass of it.

If you take a multivitamin, be sure to stick with the same brand or at the very least, make sure it contains the same amount of Vit k as what you took before. Taking them may actually help stabilize INR.
