I recently got a newer version of the Merck Manual. For those of you unfamilar with the Merck Manual, it is a wonderful medical book with a concise look at almost anything to do with medical problems. I've often thought if I had but one medical reference this would be it. I don't like the home edition because it is too watered down but much of the real thing is available on line. With the newer version came a perk, a reproduction of part of the the first Merck Manual of 1899.
Just for fun I looked up Valvular heart disease. I wanted to see which drugs were used back then. This is what I found.
