By error, instead of taking vitamins mid-morning, I took instead a double dosage of my morning heart medicines. I double dosed Altace, ACE inhibitor, and also Coreg, beta blocker. :eek2:

I can measure my heart BP and heart rate (can go too low with excess beta blocker) and see if something unusual develops. Hospital is about 5 mins away though I am home alone. I hate bothering cardiologists as they start paying less attention to your unprogrammed calls and it takes forever to get ahold of them. Thoughts?

Regards,

Rick

I think I would put a call in, I don't think anyone would consider this a nuisance call. They might say don't worry about it or might tell you things to watch for that you should call back or go in if they happen.

You could also ask what to take tomorrow, if you should just take your normal dose or what they recomend

This is a call that they probably WILL take. Just be sure to tell them exactly your concern. (I had a problem a decade or so ago when I thought I may have had a mini-stroke. I called the doctor's office and said I thought I had 'thrown a clot.' I didn't hear from the doctor, and called back a few hours later. Still no response - I called again and finally rephrased my concern -- when I said the word 'stroke' he had me come right in to the office. Fortunately, it was a transient thing, but it was pretty scary at the time. The office staff didn't know what 'thrown a clot' meant, but they understood 'stroke.' The point of all this is to tell the office that you accidentally took a double dose of your beta blocker and ACE inhibitor (which the staff may understand a bit more than the drug names) and you are afraid of having a major problem if your pressure gets too low - this may get their attention a bit more effectively).

Good luck

Rick, are you still okay, or on the floor ?
If I doubled up my Metoprolol that's where I would be....on the floor. I'm super sensitive to it.
Otherwise, some docs recommend drinking plenty of water and eating SALTY stuff to boost your BP up again.

If your Cardio has a nurse-practitioner or some other qualified receptionist, that person might be enough of an expert to answer your question without any risk of "bugging" anybody. . .

I read advise earlier on in the day and made the call. I spoke with my cardiologist's assistant who promptly returned my call with a message from my cardiologist saying "not to worry". No advise though other than chill, which I did. I measured my BP and heart rate which went down to about 85/50 with a pulse of 45. Felt really tired, sleepy, relaxed and a bit cold. Now, I am feeling better and close to normal.

Thank you all for your advise, responses and concern.

Rick
