Hello all............I thought I would share our most recent coumaden story!
We had company last Friday evening, for my husband's birthday. (Wayne is the dual valver). Around 8:30, he bit is tongue.....not bad mind you, but a puncture none the less. Two RN's and a dentist were at the house, and of course, all remedies were tried to stop the bleeding. At 11:30PM, we went to the ER, to see if we could get some help there...................At 2:30AM we left the ER, as the Dr. there really didn;t know what else to try. He had tried burning the wound with silver nitrate, and had used some other surgical dressing things, but no, didn';t work. We did get a prescription for the antibiotics he needed though.
At 4:30 AM, Wayne cauterized his tongue with a soldering iron. Got it to slow down considerably. Sounds like the middle ages, doesn't it? By ten o'clock Saturday morning, all of the bleeding stopped! By the way, his INR was 3.1 not at all our of range.
So, the moral of the story is...........don't bite your tongue if you are on coumaden!
