Hello all............I thought I would share our most recent coumaden story!

We had company last Friday evening, for my husband's birthday. (Wayne is the dual valver). Around 8:30, he bit is tongue.....not bad mind you, but a puncture none the less. Two RN's and a dentist were at the house, and of course, all remedies were tried to stop the bleeding. At 11:30PM, we went to the ER, to see if we could get some help there...................At 2:30AM we left the ER, as the Dr. there really didn;t know what else to try. He had tried burning the wound with silver nitrate, and had used some other surgical dressing things, but no, didn';t work. We did get a prescription for the antibiotics he needed though.

At 4:30 AM, Wayne cauterized his tongue with a soldering iron. Got it to slow down considerably. Sounds like the middle ages, doesn't it? By ten o'clock Saturday morning, all of the bleeding stopped! By the way, his INR was 3.1 not at all our of range.

So, the moral of the story is...........don't bite your tongue if you are on coumaden!

Tongue wounds are the worst whether your on coumadin or not.

My son bit his and the bleeding refused to stop. I sent him to the local fix it shop and they too tried Silver Nitrate and a few other things. They finally stitched it closed since nothing else was working.

Yeah Don't Bite Your Tongue!

Another warning

Another warning

Alright, so I thought I had taken this warning to heart. But apparently I just wasn't careful enough. Yesterday as I ate my vit. K enriched lunch, I bit the back, right side of my tongue. I was very relieved to realize I had not broken the skin, as I had the image of my having to leave work over a silly wound. While I'm very glad I did not bleed for hours on end, I did end up with a nasty bruise on the underside of my tongue. OW! It is very red/purple, and a little swollen. Which is making it hard to chew, swollow, brush my teeth, or talk without rubbing it and causing pain. :( I can't believe I have a bruise on my tongue! I have them EVERYWHERE now. ;)

Just wanted to share.

  Holy smokes, Batman! Tell Wayne I respect a guy who can take a Weller to his own tongue. As a former electronics tech, I guess I have a potential use for my old soldering gear after all.

Glad you got it stopped.
