hi all
went in for a semi annual dot physical dr. said he needs to know my ejection fraction had aortic valve surgery in jan 2011 he said it needs to be 40 percent or more does anyone know if theres went up after surgery im not sure what mine was before cardiologist wanted to wait six months to do one to make sure everything was healed but i guess i need one now anyway feeling good otherwise hoping for some good news on the echo.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but everyone is different, and if your EF should go up after surgery, depends how your heart was before surgery. IF the EF was in the normal range before surgery it probably wouldn't go up, or up much. IF your EF was too high before surgery, chances are it would go lower when your heart could function easier and if it was too low before surgery, hopefully as your heart heals it should go up to normal or closer to normal.
IF you don't have copies of your tests (echos MRIs) I would get them and ask the doctor what your EF was before surgery and what it is now.

thanks lyn that helps i didnt know what an ef was till yesterday i feel i should have though dr. says it has to be at least 40 percent to pass a dot physical not sure what it was before surgery but hoping it is okay

Mine went up. EF was in the 20's after surgery (I was in rough shape) and six months later it's gone up into the 40's. I'm taking Coreg which is supposed to help.
