Have heard others mentioned, but not the St. Jude's. That is what I will be getting June 1. Does anyone else have one? Let me know - BECCA

I just responded to your other thread about the children's hospital. And I can also chime in on this one. I have a St. Jude valve! I've had it since June 24, 2002.

St Jude gives you a card to carry with the serial number of your valve. I also called them, and got a little promotional kit, which included a larger than life size plastic model of the valve.

I've got my first St. Jude in a jar. The second one has a little over nine years on it. Do not wish to add to the collection...

Mine is a St. Jude also in the aortic position.
Iv'e had it for close to nine years and it's been great.

Mitral St. Jude, implanted almost 11 years ago. LOVE IT. From day one it has worked better than the Bjork-Shiley I originally had. I know it sounds strange but I felt I had more energy and was able to breathe better with the St. Jude.
Anyway - highly recommended here.

I've had a St. Jude's mitral for seven and a half years. Unlike some of the others, I hear mine constantly, but oh well, it's better than the alternative ;)

I have had a St. Jude's mitral valve for seven years in May. Seems to be working fine. I only hear it occasionallly. I do have a fib so when I exert sometimes I hear it.

i got one too. We are only together since Nov.16.04 but i think we are made for each other. I hear it ticking sometimes it sounds like a happy purring to me.

A shiny new SJ clicking here

We have been together for 115 days, but who is counting?

And yes I hear it, loud and clear

Just yesterday during a routine EKG,
the technician began looking closely at her watch

When I asked what she was looking at she told me she suspected
something wrong with her timepiece

Lots of laughing when I explained this was her 1st mechanical

Be well

I, too, hear mine constantly... But I agree, "better than the alternative." :D

I really don't think that hearing or not hearing the valve is dependant on which type of valve you have alone. Instead I think there are many factors involved, such as body type, which valve it has replaced, how in tune you personally are to your body sounds, etc. You never know if you will be one of the "lucky" ones that will get to hear the beautiful music of their own heart 24/7. ;)

I was able to hear my heart from the age of 5 to 21, because I had a shunt. It was actually somewhat strange and disturbing to NOT hear it when they took down the shunt. So when they put the valve in 4.5 years later, I could hear it again, it just sounds different. ;)

And, Phil, my husband once started to say "Man, my watch is ticking loudly!" before he realized that his watch was digital. :D

Tyce has had his St. Jude's for almost 3 years......takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Absolutely no problems, thank God.

St. Jude

I too have a St. Jude since 02/27/2003 in the mitral position. I do hear it all the time. It is strange but my Grandkids can hear it more than I can. The little guy was sitting on my lap last summer and had his head against my chest and said your insides are ticking. I also hear that it sounds "crisp".
I got a card shortly after sent to me with the serial number and other information from St. Jude. Carry it with me at all times.
