This is so true!! I have a neice and her husband that are docs. They both chose a field that did not require extra hours or being on call! They want the prestige of being a "Doctor" but don't want the hours or extra responsibility.

Maybe that is why the on call doc was so rude and condescending when he had to return my call on Labor Day. I was impacting his "lifestyle." He sure took the cake. . .

I have been a nurse for almost 20 yrs and have seen the deteration in Drs behavior and response to situations no matter how serious they are . We have four DRs in our family they make a ton of money and yes its true they are tending to go for the least hours and no call. My uncle was great surgeon worked his ass off and loved it, his patiets adored him. I remember at Xmas patients and their families would come to his home to drop off presents and wish him a happy Xmas. Thier are still afew like that but far between. Alot of them do it for the status and money.hfk

Hi Melissa-

I'm very sorry to hear that the doctor who took your call on the holiday was rude and condescending. He was "on call", right? Then it was his turn to be "up".

People get ill on weekends, holidays, in the middle of the night as well as Monday through Friday 9-5. And to be rude to a person who has just had surgery, well then, what kind of person is that?

When you have a job to do, then you do your job, otherwise, get out and let someone else take over who really wants to help.

I think I would mention that to your regular doctor. Somebody's attitude needs a big adjustment. Most seasoned doctors are not rude to patients.
