Marion,
Best wishes are headed your way for your Thursday surgery. I hope they're able to repair the valve, but I know you have the on-x for back up, so you're good to go! It sounds as though you have a great family and church support system, and that is conducive to a quick recovery. Please ask someone to update your condition when they can.
God bless and Godspeed!

Good luck, Marion. I also have the On-X as my backup plan, but hopefully we'll both get fully repair MV's. See you on the other side!

UPDATE from DoBee!!

UPDATE from DoBee!!

Hi, Family! A quick rundown on the facts for now. More later. I found a desktop computer in the family lounge that works easier than the tv/monitor/ wireless keyborad in the room.

Surgery went well on 02 April - Dr. Kirk Fleischer - Sentara Heart Hospital, Norfolk, VA

He repaired the valve, but it leaked, so he installed the On-x! It's fun, but sometimes annoying to hear it clicking away in my neck.

I volunteered to be a part of the local research study on reduced coumadin dosage with On-x patients! I want to find a tee-shirt!

Recovery has gone very well. I brought my since of humor with me, so I've gotten along great with the nursing staff.

I thought I would have been going home Weds., but my INR was at 1.05 (they wanted to see 2.5 to 3.8). Yesterday it was 1.7. Dr. Kirk gave me more coumadin - hoping he had not overshot the dosage.

This morning - INR 2.85!! I'm going home today!! One week after surgery. I feel great - no grogginess or light headedness as I did a few days ago.

I thought of you guys a lot and tried to access from my room but the screen's readout is too large and there isn't a cursor to get you where you need to go.

Thanks for all the prayers and support. You'll hear from me soon!

Love ya!! Upcoming patients: you can get through this!!:)

You sound great! I can't wait to read your next post . . . from home!:) Don't forget to start it in post-surgery . . . you've made it over the mountain!:)

You do sound great. I could not have typed on the computer no more than fly while I was in the hospital. Good for you. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Great to hear you're doing well and are going home, DoBee. And congrats on your brand new On-X valve. Yeah, that constant grogginess drove me crazy, I was so happy when I could keep my eyes open for more than an hour at a time. Every day will just keep getting better! Update us when you can -- you've earned the right to post to the POST-SURGERY forum now. :)

Great News DoBee! I have read about the study to reduce the AC. If I understand correctly there are 3 groups 1 that does the normal thing. One that (after a period) reduces AC and uses aspirn and one that after a time will go to aspirn alone. Which of these groups are you in?

I am sure you feel re born. God Bless and keep us posted. John
